12 Free and Cheap Date Ideas in Las Vegas

Picture of Lauryn Wilder
Updated: 19 July 2017

Las Vegas and love go hand in hand; the drive-thru and 24-hour wedding chapels throughout the city can attest to that. For those not quite ready to walk down the aisle, there are plenty of places for lovers to enjoy each other’s company without spending a lot of money. Whether with your long-term partner or someone you met at a nightclub, here are 12 free or easy date ideas to try in Las Vegas.

Play a game at Gold Spike

For those who want to avoid the typical first date ideas, Gold Spike is a good place to start. In the heart of downtown Las Vegas, Gold Spike serves as a popular nightlife spot on the weekends. There’s a diner on the bottom floor, as well as three bar setups and a dance floor. The lobby and courtyard serve as a playground for grown-ups. With pool tables and shuffleboard inside, and beer pong and cornhole outside, Gold Spike is an easy choice for a first date.

Dinner and a movie at Eclipse Theater

When it comes to going out, it’s hard to go wrong with dinner and a movie. Eclipse Theater in downtown Las Vegas takes the movie-watching experience to a whole new level. This theater provides dining options for customers during showtimes, as well as a wine and cocktail list. Guests can relax in the lounge before or after their movie; it hosts different events throughout the month, including comedy shows and indie film debuts.

Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art

For the creatively inclined, a night at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is a natural choice for a night out. Inside, guests can view masterpieces from world-renowned painters such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and Claude Monet. The current collection, I Am the Greatest, is a tribute to the life of the late Muhammad Ali and is on view until September.

After you finish at the gallery, head over to Palio for coffee or gelato.

Take a ride on The Roller Coaster

The brave at heart and adventurous spirits will want to take a ride on The Roller Coaster, also known as the Manhattan Express. The 180-foot-tall (54.9 meters) roller coaster is the main attraction at the New York New York, and part of the Big Apple Arcade. After you and your date take the three-minute ride in and around the hotel, you can return to the rest of the arcade to challenge each other to Dance Dance Revolution or air hockey.

Eat at La Comida

There’s at least one restaurant on every corner in the heart of downtown Las Vegas, but the neon pink monkey above La Comida sets this little Mexican eatery apart from its neighbors. La Comida looks like a bar you might find in the middle of Mexico; the rosaries and light fixtures give the establishment an enigmatic appeal. The margaritas are the star of the show at La Comida, but the food comes in a close second. Favorite dishes include the chile rellenos, queso fundido, and the fajitas.
