"Didn’t meet expectations"
We would have learned more on our own with a guidebook. The guide was a man of few words and he didn’t want to waste them on the group. He was unaware of my wife’s food allergies (don’t know if that’s on him or you). He never gave us a preview of the next day, like “ it’s very steep tomorrow you might want your trekking poles”. The last day’s lunch was at a magical setting and food looked wonderful (my wife couldn’t eat it) and then we hightailed it back to Lisbon to eat the exact same meal for dinner (again, my wife didn’t eat it). Some basic planning would have avoided this. On a positive note, the people on the tour were lovely and lots of fun. The hotels in Porto and Lisbon were very nice with friendly staff and good breakfast options. Hotel in Aveiro was not as nice, but only there for one night. The winery tour was fun and always nice to get on the water. Portugal is a beautiful country.
