A Couple's Guide to Washington, D.C.

What better place to take someone you’re courting than to the squash courts? While a squash date might sound like something from the 1980s, Squash on Fire transforms the old-school sport to a chic and boutique experience. Court rentals are $20 and equipment is $5 per person. You can join an instructional lesson, book a private coach, or figure it out yourselves by trial and error. Loser can buy drinks at Squash on Fire bar afterward.

Add some mystery to your relationship at the International Spy Museum. You and your partner can assume new identities as part of Operation Spy, and see if you have what it takes to go undercover. After this one-hour adventure, continue the night of intrigue with dinner and drinks at the Watergate Hotel– home of the infamous Watergate scandal.

Forget Sunday morning coffee and Netflix-binge. Go to Kramerbooks and pick up copies of the hottest new book, or challenge your partner to read your favorite novel. After you both get books, curl up in a comfy chair with a cup of joe and watch D.C. come alive.

Feel like a kid again (with the benefit of alcohol) at Atlas Arcade, D.C.’s only retro arcade. Load up on quarters and tackle old machines including Ms. Pacman and Street Fighter II. While there is no kitchen, after you work up an appetite, you can head down H Street for some good eats.

Don’t worry about planning months in advance for a nice night at one of D.C.’s hottest restaurant. Rose’s Luxury has a no-reservation policy. Get dressed up and prepare to stand in line outside (early weekdays are less busy, with lines forming around 4 p.m.). But patience is a virtue for a reason – the food is as beautiful as it is delicious. Try the stuffed gnocchi or stick with the classic oysters and granita.
