In Turkey, breakfast is a big deal, and on weekends, it’s served longer than usual because of the tradition of brunch, which has also taken hold in Turkish culture. A traditional Turkish breakfast usually translates into a fully decked out table, which can take a few hours to enjoy. Here is a look at some of the best breakfast places in Ankara where brunch is served the Turkish way.

1. Fige Restaurant

Restaurant, Bar, Turkish

As one of Ankara’s loveliest restaurants, with a beautiful garden filled with colorful flowers in baskets, there’s no place better to enjoy a hearty breakfast than at Fige. Every Sunday, it hosts its famous brunch buffet that includes every kind of food imaginable. Freshly made Turkish pastries, different kinds of olives, deli meats, pişi (fried dough balls), and meze varieties are only some examples from this brunch that will keep you sated all day.

2. Zenger Paşa Konağı

Restaurant, Turkish

Located in a renovated Ottoman house, Zenger Paşa Konağı is as traditional as it comes, with Anatolian decorations and a great view of the city from the dining room and terrace. Their breakfast includes all the classics served in traditional metal bowls, including eggs with sucuk (sausage with herbs and spices), local cheese varieties, gözleme (pastry filled with cheese), different jams, and plenty of freshly brewed Turkish tea.

3. Hamlakit Kalhvaltı

Restaurant, Turkish

This inconspicuous restaurant actually serves an excellent breakfast that’s common of Turkey’s Black Sea region. With a name that pays homage to a highland in the area, all the ingredients come directly from villages in the Black Sea region. You’ll find traditional and delicious dishes such as muhlama (a traditional dish made with melted butter, cheese, and corn flour) and eggs with cheese and sucuk.

5. Deniz Kozanlı Kahvaltı

Restaurant, Turkish

Deniz Kozanlı looks more like a village home than a restaurant, complete with simple wooden chairs and tables decorated with Anatolian throws and carpets. The breakfast is also fully traditional and includes their special homemade sucuk köfte as well as regional börek (stuffed pastry), muhammara (hot pepper dip), different jams, clotted cream from Bolu, butter, honey, and three cheese and olive varieties, all served with flat bread and village bread, plus unlimited Turkish tea.

6. Cafemiz

Restaurant, Cafe, Turkish

One of the most romantic cafés in Ankara, Cafemiz, decked out in pure white and floral patterns, is also a great place for breakfast. In the summer, make sure to get a table in the beautiful garden and enjoy breakfast assortments that include traditional Turkish, a mini breakfast plate, a create-your-own-omelette option, and menemen (Turkish eggs with tomato, onions, and peppers).

7. Kınacizade Konağı

Restaurant, Turkish

Another great restaurant in Ankara’s old town, Kınacizade Konağı sits in a renovated Ottoman house decorated simply and traditionally and features a small museum room with antiques. For breakfast, you can take on the full village breakfast (for two people) or choose from the single dishes such as butter, honey, and clotted cream as well as jam, cheese, egg, and olives to create your own meal.
