This lovely Inn has old-world charm. Built in 1874, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Named after its seafaring original owner, the elegant chambers have monikers like Port of Call Dublin or Port of Call London. Rooms at this B&B in Searsport, Maine, have unique amenities such as an antique chandelier, clawfoot cast-iron tub, and four-poster bed. Innkeepers Ted and Lisa prepare a two-course breakfast daily, the first course is a fruit dish, and the second a hot one, such as sweet potato pancakes or a zucchini frittata. The main house holds a three-bedroom suite with a full kitchen and living room, and the guest rooms have queen or full-sized beds with showers. The pretty slate-blue inn was built in 1806 but, never fear, today the rooms are modernized with flat-screen TVs, private baths, luxurious towels, and most even have a gas fireplace. Rooms are individually decorated with four-poster beds, floral wallpaper, and patterned quilts. The two-course breakfast is served on the garden patio or historic keeping room and consists of staples like scrambled eggs, French toast, fresh fruit, and yogurt. Innkeepers Gary and James, along with their cat Tinker, and dog Sadie, provide a warm welcome.

7. The Old Saco Inn, Fryeburg

Set on 65 acres, surrounded by a smattering of trees, is the Old Saco Inn. The riverbank property with its views of White Mountain will help you reset and get back to nature. Gorgeous rustic-chic details abound at this secluded getaway, set on 12 acres (5ha) of farmland and forest. Built in 1763 and restored in 2018, four of the rooms are inside the original building, and eight are in the renovated barn. A breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade scones, and egg dishes from the farm’s hens is served in the cosy keeping room.
