Amsterdam Noord is the hippest area of the city, so it is no wonder that it is full of great and unique restaurants that will leave a mark on those who dine there. The Culture Trip has looked into all the great restaurants in the area and selected the 10 best ones, so read on and enjoy!

Pllek is a creative restaurant, with innovative ideas and a unique approach to dining. Not only is it a great place to eat, but it is also one of the best places where tourists can go when in Amsterdam Noord. The relaxed, almost beach-like atmosphere is great for recovering from a long day of sightseeing, and the views over the water and of the city are truly impressive. The crowd here is alternative and mostly made up of locals, so it is a great way of experiencing an authentic Dutch meal whilst enjoying the great atmosphere.

Cafe De Ceuvel

This restaurant is not only focused on serving delicious ecological and organic food, but also on reusing materials and waste in order to promote a sustainable environment. The site where it is constructed had suffered deeply from the pollution that the industrial area had generated in the past, and the cafe, as well as the different boathouses that surround it were part of a project to clean up the area. At night it is frequented by the local artists and musicians that live in the northern part of Amsterdam and come here to enjoy the buzzing atmosphere and great food.

Il Pecorino Wilhemina Dok

Hardly blending in, Il Pecorino’s bright orange exterior is easily visible from far away. It is situated along the bank where the free ferry drops visitors off in the northern part of the capital, so it is very easy to reach. It also has a great view over the river IJ, and the upstairs dining room La Stanza del Capitano (the Captain’s Room) has an incredible panorama of the city’s skyline. The food is inspired by Italian gastronomy and is exquisitely presented.

Pasoek Thai Restaurant

Indonesian gastronomy has pretty much become part of Amsterdam’s culinary culture, due to the number of Indonesians living in the capital, and Thai food is not far behind. The sheer number of Thai restaurants in the city is astounding, but Pasoek Thai Restaurant stands out from all the rest as one of the best places to eat in the city. They serve delicious set menus, including a vegetarian one, so everyone will be satisfied after a hefty meal at this locale.

Jacques Jour

This beautiful restaurant has a sunny terrace and is open daily for lunch and for brunch on Sundays. The decoration is fresh and bright, in harmony with the food that is served here. The staff is accommodating and willing to help in any way possible, even if it requires modifying some of the ingredients in the dishes to adapt them to all types of diets.

Bistro Noord

Bistro Noord, situated in the vicinity of the NDSM wharf, which is incidentally one of the major attractions in this part of the city, serves all-time classics as well as a quick lunch menu. It was founded by two brothers who had the intention of serving excellent food in a simple and unrefined location. The interior design is cool and breezy, and the dishes on the menu are traditional and simple, yet delicious.

Pussy Galore

Located in a building which used to be a school and has now become a Cooperative, Pussy Galore is one of the newest additions to the North’s culinary scene. The vibe is as funky and quirky as it gets, with original decorations everywhere and a decidedly vintage feel. The chef decides what he will serve each day depending on his mood, so there is no guessing what type of heavenly recipe he will come up with, although one thing is for sure; the food will be vegetarian, organic and made with the freshest ingredients.

Café Modern

Situated in the same locale as Jacques Jour, Café Modern transforms the space into an elegant restaurant where diners can enjoy a classy meal, and is managed by a completely different team, so even those who have already eaten at Jacques Jour should come here for an entirely unique experience. Try their oyster with tartare of beef for something truly luxurious.

PontStation is a quirky addition to the dining establishments around the NDSM wharf, and serves delicious and take-away food, such as tasty fried fish, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, and croquettes, which are a Dutch specialty usually consisting of mashed potatoes and ground meat, fried with breadcrumbs. Apart from these classics, there are various healthy – but just as scrumptious – options to choose from the menu, for example organic sandwiches or vegetables with dips. They also sell ice creams for dessert.

Hotel de Goudfazant

Although getting here might not be the easiest thing to do, it sure is worth all the effort. Despite what its name suggests, Hotel de Goudfazant is not located in a hotel but rather in a former garage in one of the industrial areas of northern Amsterdam. There is an enormous dining room, decorated with a mix of different styles that contrast; for example the table settings are very elegant, whilst the chairs and tables in themselves are quite simple, creating an eclectic aesthetic.
