Berlin is known for its culinary diversity, and little else is as popular as the city’s favourite fast and cheap vegetarian eats: falafel. The delicious chickpea balls with herbs and spices served in wraps, sandwiches, and on flavourful mixed plates (Teller), can be found at restaurants, food stands and kiosks across the city. Here are the very best spots for falafel in Berlin.

1. Karun Bistro

Located in the stylish Charlottenburg neighbourhood, Karun Bistro is a cosy restaurant with a Persian-Arab menu. Although there is plenty of high-quality meat on offer, this joint also has a range of vegetarian options. To enjoy the full range of flavours, order a plate, which is topped with hummus, Moutabal (eggplant purée), a serving of rice dishes, a range of sauces and perfectly spiced falafel balls. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable, it’s the perfect falafel spot in western Berlin.

2. Dada Falafel

Dada Falafel serves amazing falafel in the lively area just outside Mitte’s Oranienburger Tor. The interior is casual, the service is friendly and it’s a great place in the summer, offering plenty of outdoor seating. Every dish is an explosion of traditional Middle Eastern flavours, with plenty of favourites including mixed plates with baba ganoush, hummus, halloumi, roasted vegetables and crumply falafel.

3. Boussi Falafel

Boussi Falafel perfectly combines traditional Lebanese cuisine with an organic, all-vegetarian menu. Located close to Winterfeldtplatz Market in Schöneberg, this healthy, delicious restaurant serves up made-to-order falafel sandwiches, available on whole grain pita, with baked halloumi and a range of salads, vegetables and sauces. They also offer a range of vegan sauces and falafel plates.

4. Habba Habba

Habba Habba is the centrally located, super tasty falafel joint with a diverse menu. Here, you can get delicious falafel wraps served with aromatic yogurt sauce, seasoned vegetables, herbs, salad, as well as pine nuts, almonds, peanuts and pomegranate dressing. The menu is a combination of fresh, unique dishes with Middle-Eastern roots.

5. Sahara Imbiss

Sahara Imbiss the local Sudanese restaurant that the locals can’t get enough of. There are three chains located around Neukölln and on the border of Kreuzberg, and it’s the favourite falafel spot in these neighbourhoods. With its signature peanut sauce and falafel, this joint also has a huge selection of vegan and vegetarian options.

6. Falafel Daye

If you’re craving a crisp falafel, in some pita bread, as a wrap or on a mixed plate with fresh salad, tabboulé, halloumi and hummus, than Falafel Daye is the place to go. The falafel is crispy and fragrant, and the menu, which is packed with all the usual favourites, is well-priced and has a range of vegetarian and vegan options. Located in vibrant Prenzlauer Berg, it’s the perfect spot in warmer months to sit outside and people watch.
