It’s an oft-quoted maxim on holiday that if the kids are happy, the parents are happy. But while plenty claim family-friendly status, not all hotels can guarantee enough activities and entertainment to keep the kiddies content for the whole stay. We’ve picked our top 10 places to stay in Mallorca that do just that – and even some that allow mum and dad some precious time away from the little darlings.
For the full-on resort complex experience with the added bonus of an all-inclusive plan as standard, families with kids need look no further than Club Mac. At around a thousand rooms, it’s one of the largest hotels on the island, and with a total of eight pools and an extensive animation program kids are never short of somewhere to splash or something to do. Be warned, however, with all those youngsters it can get boisterous. There’s also the extra perk of free entry to the neighbouring waterpark.
Bucking the trend for the typical value-oriented family hotel, the Zafiro Palace Alcudia is as upscale as kid-friendly hotels come on the island. The complex is big without being brash and the all-inclusive plan offers the quality you’d expect in a five-star property. Accommodation is all spacious family-friendly suites, while facilities include six pools, four themed restaurants and a deluxe spa for parents to luxuriate when the little ones are having a riot at one of three kids’ clubs.
Overlooking the seafront drive that runs along the pretty Pollensa Bay, this village-style complex has a more remote feel than most. But there’s little reason to venture beyond this self-contained upscale property, with an extensive range of amenities that include an impressive children’s entertainment program, three swimming pools and modern spa spread over three levels. There’s also no shortage of sports facilities, including a watersports centre, and even an adults-only zone to escape from the screaming kiddies.
Overlooking the picturesque Porto Petro and surrounded by pine forest, the Blau Privilege PortoPetro Beach Resort certainly has an outstanding setting. It also boasts a five-star rating, thanks largely to an enormous choice of facilities that include five restaurants, a dizzying range of sports activities and three large pools – one adults-only. A fleet of golf buggies transport guests around the complex’s low-rise accommodation blocks, most of which have lovely sea views. Add an outstanding kids’ club (for three-year-old to teens) and a decent spa, and it makes for happy holidays for all.
With its strikingly modern makeover, this swish hotel scores high on style. Its setting isn’t bad either – positioned right on the beachfront promenade overlooking the tranquil waters of Playa de Palma. A kids’ club keeps the little ones entertained in the mornings, plus there’s a children’s pool and special child menus in the restaurant. Rooms have family-friendly options with sofabeds and bathtubs, while upgraded rooms add the likes of rocking chairs, whirlpool tubs and a panoramic view of the bay.
Part pirate-themed amusement park, part aparthotel, this fun and playful property is a sure-fire hit with most younger kids. The pirate theme runs almost throughout the resort, with Pirate Cave Kids Club, Pirate Shows, various pools, splash areas and waterslides all guaranteed to keep smaller guests entertained. An all-inclusive plan makes it easier for families on a budget, while apartment accommodation all comes with kitchenettes and – you guessed it – pirate-themed motifs.
After a 2017 update and rebranding, the Zafiro Palace Palmanova is now polishing its fifth star in a resort known more for cheap-and-cheerful package deals. An all-suite hotel, accommodation is as high-end as it is roomy – so great for families with one or two kids – and some even featuring swim-up terraces. Child-friendly facilities also shine, with multiple (ten!) pools, free supervised kids’ club and play areas to keep the little ones amused.
While it may come as a surprise to include a golf hotel on a family-friendly list, the Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel certainly deserves its place. As well as being set in three acres of lush gardens with beautiful views of the surrounding hills, the grounds include a separate family pool, a shaded splash pool for toddlers and free kids’ clubs for children aged between four and 10. It even organises fun family Sunday events, featuring barbecues and bouncy castles – and who doesn’t love a bouncy castle?
A family-owned and managed hotel, the friendly personal vibe at Hotel Bonsol makes a pleasant change from the usual anonymous chain hotels. It also has a fine setting nestled into a cliff surrounded by pine trees, with tropical gardens that step down to a tiny, calm-water beach. Two lovely larger child-friendly coves – Illetas and Comtesa – are also within walking distance. Family suites are more than big enough for a family of four, with extra bathrooms and living areas, plus a supervised kids’ club operates June to September.
