The medieval walled town of Alcudia, in Mallorca, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands, offers atmospheric ruins, authentic weekly markets and endless sands. The shining wetlands are an antidote to busy beaches, and far-off mountains finish the scenic backdrop. Here’s our list of great apartments where you can live like a local.
Perfect for a break by the beach, these studios and penthouses are a hop from the 10km (6mi) curved stretch of white sand at Port d’Alcudia, with palm trees and sparkling sea. The renovated rooms have colourful details, each with a fully equipped kitchen and balcony with views of the leafy Mallorcan hills. Relax on the rooftop terrace or by the outdoor swimming pool before hitting the beach.
The sands of Playa de Muro are home to these seafront apartments overlooking the bay. Gold-coloured furniture is highlighted with blue accents, and there are charming features such as wooden ladders propped against the wall and woven lampshades casting a glow above your bed. Each apartment has a kitchenette and balcony, and there’s a pretty shared garden. The beach is great for chilling out or trying watersports; the bars are a 20-minute walk away, and it’s just 8km (5mi) to the mountains.
With its white frontage and vibrant blue shutters, the exterior of YourHouse Port is the epitome of a Spanish beach home. The inside comprises minimalist rooms with monochrome decor and potted plants for a splash of natural colour. It comes with a kitchenette and terrace, and the location is perfect – right by the beach and not far from the walled town and coastal wetlands.
Live the group holiday of your dreams at this secluded villa, with three bedrooms – one with bunk beds – two bathrooms, a huge kitchen and plenty of room for indoor or outdoor dining. It has cosy shared spaces with suede sofas, overhead beams, wooden shutters and woven baskets. Best of all is the outdoor pool, surrounded by trees and overlooking the forests and hills.
This apartment is just 100m (110yd) from the beach and close to the marina, so you can enjoy an evening stroll by the horseshoe bay of Puerto de Pollensa. Relax in the funky furniture-scattered lounge area, then head up to your terrace for a dip in the hot tub, overlooking the Mediterranean and the Tramuntana mountains. There’s even a barbecue up here, so you can dine in style every night.
Enjoy an authentic break in peaceful Santa Margalida, where you can sip Spanish coffee at a pavement cafe before driving to the nearby archaeological site of the Necropolis de Son Real, or the Playa de Son Baulo, where the beach is backed by forest. In the green-shuttered villa, you’ll find rooms decorated with peace in mind. The outdoor pool and dining area offer the perfect spot to catch the evening sun as it dips behind the olive groves.
Bellamar is situated in Puerto Pollensa, a typical Spanish town with a vibrant square, craft shops and traditional restaurants. Rooms at the seafront apartment block are light and simply furnished, with pops of colour from vibrant cushions, and kitchens are fully equipped. Your balcony overlooks the sea or mountains, while the outdoor pool is surrounded by lush greenery. A 15-minute drive takes you to Cap de Formentor, with its towering cliffs and pretty coves.
Brightly coloured seating and curtains liven up this simply decorated holiday complex, which offers plenty of activities for families with an outdoor pool and children’s playground. Start your day with the buffet breakfast, then stroll to the nearby sands of Playa de Muro or take a trip to the S’Albufera nature reserve.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
