If you grew up in Philadelphia, PA and have since moved away, there are surely plenty of things you miss about this incredibly vibrant city, whether it’s the food, the people, or the Eagles. Here are seven things people miss the most when they leave Philadelphia.

How “honest” everyone is

Calling Philadelphians “honest” is pretty polite terminology – but sometimes, even people from the City of Brotherly Love are blunt and rude, and we love it. A true Philadelphian will tell you exactly what they think at any moment, and while other cities may be more polite, you’ll certainly miss how upfront Philadelphians are.

The food – enough said

Philadelphia has some of the best food on the East Coast, so if you think the whole city’s food scene is just cheesesteaks, think again. From high-end James Beard Award-winners to some of the country’s best sandwiches and cuisines from around the world, you’ll certainly miss Philly’s best eats.

The most walkable East Coast city

Philadelphia is easily the most walkable city on the East Coast, and though it also has plenty of public transportation, you can spend a lovely day wandering from the Schuylkill to the Delaware without pushing yourself too hard. This is because Center City itself isn’t as expansive as other cities’ downtown areas, such as New York and Chicago, so it’s relatively quick to traverse on foot.

The affordability

Philadelphia is a very affordable city for young professionals, thanks to good rent prices and a relatively stable cost of living across the board. Millennials can thrive here without overpaying for terrible apartments or living in serious debt and, on average, food and drink costs are lower than bigger cities such as New York.

BYOBs

It’s difficult to get a new liquor license in Philadelphia, so a lot of restaurants open as BYOBs, which stands for “bring your own bottle.” These spots keep your check average down while still letting you enjoy a bottle of wine or a six-pack of beer over dinner, and they’re not as popular in other major cities as they are here.

Amazing street art

Philly is home to some of the best street art around – there are so many murals scattered throughout the City of Brotherly Love that they even have their own tour. Plenty of cities have cool street art, but Philly’s murals are personal, gorgeous, and completely unique to this vibrant city.

Philadelphia

The sports

Nobody loves their teams as much as Philly sports fans do, and in the wake of the Eagles’ first ever Super Bowl victory, the city is more fired up than ever. Whether it’s the Sixers, Eagles, Phillies, or Flyers, if you move, you’ll miss the frenzy over which team makes it to the playoffs, and rooting for them from afar just isn’t as much fun.
