With a new academic year quickly approaching, new wardrobes are in order. Even if you’re not going back to school, fall is the perfect time to freshen up your closet. But why pay full price when there are so many great second-hand stores in and around Boston? Buying from consignment shops is not only an economically smart move, but also one that’s environmentally friendly. Plus, poking around and finding the perfect piece is more fun than traditional department-store shopping. Here are some of the best places in Boston to second-hand shop.

2nd Time Around

2nd Time Around actually has locations across the country, which may explain why they have some of the best second-hand clothes in Boston. You’ll only find lightly used or like-new clothes, shoes, and accessories here, as they only accept consignments less than two years old. Stop in to find brands like Calvin Klein, Chanel, and Prada at up to 70% off.

2. Oona's

Oona’s

If you’re searching for a wide variety of unique brands, Oona’s is the place to go. They’ve been a vintage clothing staple in Harvard Square since 1972 and are one of the few independent stores left in the square. They have always encouraged small business in the area, and their stock includes clothing for both men and women. You can count on them for elegant, vintage fashion.

3. SAULT New England

Shop, Store

It’s difficult to find customers with a bad review of SAULT New England. Located in the South End, this independent shop is a gem for men’s clothing. Don’t let the small storefront fool you; hidden inside are unique finds in not only men’s clothes, but also in household items and grooming supplies. It may be on the pricier side as far as second-hand shopping goes, but customers swear by SAULT’s pristine quality and ever-changing selection.

4. The Garment District

The Garment District

While this is unfortunately not an entire district of the city, their selection is so expansive that they probably could be. At The Garment District, you can browse their 12,000 square feet of clothes, shoes, and accessories for both men and women. Not only do they have the traditional brands you might find elsewhere, but they’re also stocked with attire for every decade and costumes for every occasion. For a fun twist on consignment shopping, check out their “By The Pound” program.

5. Covet

Shop, Store

Like many consignment shops, Covet’s motto is reduce, reuse, resell, and they’re ready to help you find exactly what you need. Ranging from high-end brands to classic, inexpensive staples, Covet covers a wide variety in their stock of women’s clothing. If you can’t make it into the store right away, find daily fashion inspiration on their Instagram page.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
