The Best Walks to Take in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE and one of the most family-friendly and cultural cities in the country, is definitely a city every traveler should visit if in the region. From its magnificent Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to the sparkling corniche, this city seems to have it all. One of the best ways to explore the city is by foot, so here are the best walks to take in Abu Dhabi to truly experience the city from a local level.

The Corniche

Laying peacefully along the stunning beach of Abu Dhabi, here you can enjoy both the skyline of the city as well as the emerald-green sea as you walk along the clean walkways of the ever-popular corniche. In the mornings you’ll find joggers and sprinters, in the afternoons mostly families and children, and in the evenings and nights a younger crowd who come to the beach for barbeques or for people-watching.

Hamdan Bin Mohammad Street

Weaving through the heart of the city, this is the perfect walk to experience the city-life of Abu Dhabi. From local restaurants and cafes to shopping malls and traditional souks, this street is always buzzing with the street-life of the capital of the UAE.

Eastern Mangroves

Located in the National Mangrove Park, a walk along the bright green spaces and natural mangroves of Abu Dhabi will calm your spirits and make you fall in love with the dynamic aspects of the city even more. This is a fantastic place to get lost in nature, wildlife, and to escape the heat of the city.

Yas Marina Circuit

Easily the most bustling, young, and energetic part of Abu Dhabi, this area is located on Yas Island. Here you can people-watch the richest and most fashionable of Abu Dhabi, exercise on the clean running tracks, or simply bask in the high-end luxuries of one of the richest capitals in the world.

Mushrif Central Park

One of Abu Dhabi’s most popular parks, families and young people alike are constantly flocking to this open green park for a bit of fresh air and exercise. Walking around this park will give you the best look at what the locals in Abu Dhabi do for relaxation and peaceful outings with friends.

Al-Hosn Fort (The White Fort)

The oldest building in Abu Dhabi, this is one of the most historical treasures of the entire country. Usually a bit quieter than other parts of the city, here you can walk along its courtyards, inside the fort itself, or in the surrounding gardens to really get a feel of old and traditional Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Although a huge tourist attraction, this enormous and breath-taking mosque is arguably the best place to go in the city for a serene and thought-provoking walk. Here you can walk along the cool white marbled corridors, explore the vast courtyard, or simply ponder while getting mesmerized by the beauty of this magnificent architectural masterpiece.
