Ramat Aviv, the verdant residential neighborhood surrounding Tel Aviv University, is full of great cafes to grab a coffee during the day and a drink at night. Though it may not look that way, it is home to many hidden gems, whether you are looking for a coffee shop to work, a bar to party at, or anything in between, Ramat Aviv has a place for you. Here are some of the best.

Cafe Louise

Cafe Louise focuses on healthy, natural fare, with many vegan options. In addition, they serve decadent baked goods and some of the best smoothies in North Tel Aviv. Cafe Louise is an also excellent brunch spot, and features both an indoor and outdoor terrace to enjoy a vegan breakfast in the sunshine or a warm bell pepper shakshuka inside. For those in a rush, they have cookies and cakes to purchase and have a vast variety of refreshing drinks available to go.

The Miflat is the brainchild of the University’s Student Union backing and the creativity the down-to-earth bracelet bar upstairs. This quirky underground yet peaceful space offers a relaxing space, complete with bean bags, pool tables, video games, laptop pillows, chill out music, and most importantly, budget-priced fresh coffee and chilled beer served all day long. The Miflat opens its doors at 10am and has movie screenings, guest lectures and stand up comedy events in the evening until it closes at 9pm.

HaHoog Hazfoni

The Hoog Hazfoni bar is located just outside of the Tel Aviv University campus. Filled with students studying during the day and partying at night, this pub exemplifies the ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality. During the day, the large patio serves coffee and tasty pub food like pizza and their epic sweet potato fries, as well as healthier options like salads and wraps. At night, the bar offers bracelet packages providing limitless alcohol for a set price. If you’re not sure what to order, the cocktail of the day is always a solid choice. Throughout the seasons, this is a popular spot for international and Israeli students alike, serving up the beer for in between classes and a warm sangria to top off your evenings.

3. Rosh Pina

Rosh Pina Pub is the place to go for beer-lovers, they serve a comprehensive menu of local and imported beer by the bottle and on tap. During the winter months, they serve a fantastic hot cider, and most nights, they play classic rock n’ roll and alternative music. This bar is in the midst of a residential square, and is mostly frequented by those in the know. This is where students can go and unwind, have a casual drink, and still stay close to the university area.

Torii is the ideal spot to share a decanter of excellent wine alongside sushi specials. Whether you’re in the mood for stir-fry noodles and beer, elegant sashimi and glass of white wine, or a hot sake and fresh seaweed salad, Torii has it all. It’s got the neighborhood vibe, the class of a wine bar, and the satisfaction of top-notch food on offer. Nelson 33

Nelson 33 is the best place to grab a reasonably priced meal and a cocktail. This restaurant has a family atmosphere, so it’s not recommended for a night out, but this is a go-to spot when you’re looking for a place with everything from thick milkshakes and fresh salads to burgers and even breakfast. Nelson 33 is a great place to munch and drink with friends or family.
