Ryong is the vegan and vegetarian Asian fusion restaurant on bustling Torstraße. Serving up bao burgers, noodle dishes, wraps and bento, it is a combination of Vietnamese and Japanese food, with an ultra modern twist. The interior is a mixture of heavy and light woods, and stylish design elements, like the über-hip lightbulbs. With a darkly lit, warm and inviting ambience, it’s the perfect joint to try a unique take on traditional Asian cuisine.

Shiso Burger is the street-food burger restaurant that brings an Asian touch to its delicious burgers. Usually opting for prime Angus beef, they will also, on request, serve up your burger with Japanese Wagyu-beef. Much like the Korean BBQ concept, Ushido is the Japanese version of this BBQ experience. Guest order from a diverse menu and then grill up their meals in a BBQ station at their table. The menu is tailored for meat-lovers, but along with a huge selection of meat cuts, there is also a mixture of vegetable to grill up and a range of side dishes to order. Ushido’s interior is modern and sleek, with an array of wooden tables, with traditional BBQ stations in the middle. The first of its kind in Berlin, Ushido, is a meat lover’s dream destination.

Transit has two locations in Berlin – having originally opened in Friedrichshain, they have recently opened a sister place in Mitte. Both follow the same concept, authentic Southeast Asian flavours served in a tapas style. The menu is diverse, with well-known favourites, and they pride themselves on serving fresh, homemade food. The flavours are a mixture of Thai and Indonesian, and the menu has a range of dishes, but the duck pancakes, or ‘Duck in Pyjamas,’ is a classic favourite. With red lanterns, a dark interior and romantic lighting, it’s a cosy spot to try a selection of wonderfully made Asian treats.

Part of the Kuchi restaurant group, Cocolo Ramen, in Mitte and Kreuzberg, brings Japan to Berlin in a traditional way. The self-labelled institution for traditional Japanese ramen, the menu consists of five deliciously different and completely authentic ramen dishes. The Mitte location, hidden in a quiet part of Oranienburger Tor, has been serving some of the city’s best noodles for a number of years. It’s the unique and truly authentic, must-try when in Berlin.
