Berlin’s gastronomy scene is bursting with authentic flavours that reflect its multicultural society. Italian influences are amongst many to be found in the city, with traditional trattorias and pizzerias in almost every neighbourhood. Made with imported Italian cheese and cooked in wood ovens, these are the very best pizzerias in Berlin.

1. Masaniello

Located in Kreuzberg, just a short walk from Hermannplatz, Masaniello is an authentic Napolese pizzeria. It’s family-run, and the owners, chefs and much of the produce used in the restaurant all originally come from Naples, bringing the UNESCO ‘intangible’ status with them. If you want truly authentic pizza in Berlin, this is the place to go.

2. Olio Sale Pepe

Olio Sale Pepe brings a touch of Naples to Berlin, making a name for itself with traditional Neapolitan pizzas. Found in the quiet neighbourhood of Schöneberg, this joint isn’t as famous as Masaniello, but the food is just as tasty. The talented staff take full advantage of their top-quality ingredients, serving up authentic pizzas, pastas and antipasti.

3. Mami Camilla

Mami Camilla is where Italians go for an authentic taste of home. The restaurant has its culinary roots in Sorrento, where it prospered under the same name before being moved to Berlin. Most of its chefs are trained in Italy, giving them the insider knowledge required to serve up truly amazing Italian cuisine. It doesn’t get more authentic or delicious than this, and if you’re craving some thin-crusted, cheesy pizza, this is the place to be.

4. Il Casolare

Il Casolare is perfectly located on the leafy streets of Kreuzberg, right by the canal. Serving up cheap but tasty wine, a selection of traditional pastas and a huge range of wood-oven pizzas, this family-run restaurant offers some of the freshest, most authentic pizza in Berlin. The restaurant is one of three and, because of its inviting location, fills up quickly in the summer, so booking in advance is advised.

5. ZOLA

ZOLA is a hidden gem in Neukölln, nestled in a courtyard off Paul-Lincke-Ufer. The interior is straightforward, consisting of a few, simple wooden tables and a large wood oven that churns out their delicious pizzas. This street-food style spot is the best place to go for some quick but seriously yummy pizza, and its canal-side location mean it’s the perfect takeaway treat to enjoy while sipping some beers and people-watching.

6. Standard

Located on the cobblestone streets of Prenzlauer Berg, Standard is a relative newcomer to Berlin’s gastronomy scene. Style meets truly delicious pizza here and its chic, sleek space is often packed with locals and visitors waiting to try their amazing creations. The Margherita here is amazing, while the Taste of Brandenburg pays homage to the restaurant’s ethos of locally sourced ingredients, topped with potato, boar sausages, and rosemary.

7. Monella

The setting at Monella is one of unapologetic simplicity. Black walls, wooden furniture and minimal decor lay the scene for the main event: delectable pizza. The chefs are concerned with little else than producing the best fare and are not afraid to strip their pizzas down to the minimum ingredients. Rich in Italian flair and flavour, thick dough is coated in either red or white sauce, and topped with only the freshest ingredients.
