Small fishing villages and family-run fishing businesses are still abundant in Puerto Rico, so it’s a perfect place to visit if you want fresh seafood. Restaurants all over the island, from small roadside stands to large gourmet restaurants, offer dishes such as red snapper, shrimp, octopus, dorado (mahi mahi) and chapin. La Pescadería

La Pescadería in Humacao is a great place for a relaxing lunch or dinner with drinks. Feel the ocean breeze as you sit on their cozy deck and gaze at the water, or go inside and beat the heat in their air conditioned dining room. Try the catch of the day or munch away on some fish tacos with mango salsa.

El Roble

Another great seafood place with a view of the Caribbean is El Roble in Salinas. This is one of those places you absolutely must try while in Puerto Rico. They have been around for over 60 years, and their experience shines through with each delicious plate. They are known for some of the freshest seafood anywhere, particularly the lobster and crab, and the tostones made from fresh green plantains are superb.

Located on the northern coast of the island near the village of Arecibo, the outdoor seating of Salitre Mesón Costera is literally steps from the Atlantic Ocean. Try the smokey grilled octopus as a starter, then enjoy one of their amazing fish and seafood dishes. The black paella is a little odd in appearance, but incredible in flavor. Also try any dish with ceti when it’s in season – a small transparent and very tasty fish.

El Makito

El Makito is a great place to take the family for quality fish and seafood, but without getting too fancy. They have a very lengthy menu with plenty to choose from, so everyone in your party should be able to find something they like, even the picky eaters. Great food, great staff and an incredible view from the terrace, El Makito has it all.

Bamboleio

PR-102 from Cabo Rojo to Mayaguez is a food and drink paradise, and one of the best stops on this culinary route is Bamboleio. They specialize in fresh locally-caught fish and seafood, blending Caribbean flair with Puerto Rican tradition. Watch the awesome sunset on the Caribbean from their small romantic deck while you sip a chilled glass of Albariño and enjoy tapas or one of their signature dishes. It will soon become a go-to place each time you visit the island.
