This fort is located on a large hill in Grande-Terre in Guadeloupe. It was constructed in the 1700s, above Le Gosier, by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, a Marshal of France. The several small buildings and rooms below are connected by underground tunnels and battlements. It was seized by Britain in the late 1700s, but recaptured by a French battalion lead by Victor Hugues. The British forces were then ejected from Guadeloupe in 1794. The fortification now hosts several art exhibitions.
