Jebel Akhdar
Jebel Akhdar, which means the “Green Mountain” in English, is one of the most spectacular mountains located in the Al Hajar Mountains range in Al Dakhliya region. Although it is mostly rocky and covered with stones, the mountain is moist enough to support agriculture, and that’s how it got its name. The mountain is inhabited by Omani tribes called “Al Riyami”, who established their lives by building villages and farming and planting the mountain. In 2011, the mountain was designated a natural reserve for its unique biodiversity.
Majlis Al Jinn
Majlis Al Jinn means the gathering place of the genies, and is located around 1,380 meters (0.86 miles) above sea level. It is the second largest cave on Earth, as its base covers an area of 624,000 square feet, which equals around 11 football fields. The only way to access the cave is through three holes at the top of the cave, which were created by rainwater dissolving the cave’s limestone covering.
Wadi Shab
Wadi Shab, which is located in Al Sharqiyah Region, is one of the most famous valleys in Oman. Local and international visitors come to enjoy the Wadi’s waterfall inside its cave, its turquoise pools and terraced plantations.
Wadi Bani Awf
Wadi Bani Awf is another famous valley in Al Dakhliya region in Oman. It runs through a big canyon and is famous for its limestone cliffs and various plantations of lemons, mangos and dates.
Snake Gorge
Snake Gorge is a famous route that attracts hikers for its unique cliffs, water pools, and natural waterslides. It is a narrow road between mountains.
Jebel Shams
Jebel Shams, or the “Mountain of the Sun”, is another mountain that is part of the Al Hajar Mountains range. However, it is known for being the highest mountain in the country, and has two summits; north and south. Jebel Shams has a great view over Wadi Ghul, which lies next to it and is locally referred to as “The Grand Canyon of Arabia”.
Wadi Sahtan
Wadi Sahtan is another interesting attraction for hikers and adventure lovers. As it contains lots of nice villages, gardens and amazing tracks, it gives all visitors plenty to explore and enjoy.
