Weddings in Chennai, or in any part of India, for that matter, are more of a festival than just personal or familial affairs. And whether you want your big day to be a simple and quiet affair or are fixing to party hard, picking the perfect venue is perhaps the most important aspect of all. So, if you’re tying the knot in Chennai, here are the best and most beautiful wedding venues in the city.

Vivanta by Taj Fisherman’s Cove

Arguably one of the most beautiful hotels in the city, Taj Fisherman’s Cove has been one of Chennai’s most popular wedding venues ever since its inception. Located right by the Bay of Bengal at Kovalam on the scenic East Coast Road, interest in the property has picked up even more in recent years with the rising appeal of beach resort weddings in the city. At nearly Rs. 1,000 per plate, it is easily among the most expensive venues in the city, but unlike other high-end venues, Taj Fisherman’s Cove is far more spacious and also has the added advantage of splendid sea views.

The Raintree Hotel Anna Salai

The Raintree Anna Salai is one of Chennai’s most recognizable landmarks and is located right in the centre of the city in Teynampet along the arterial Mount Road. The hotel has a total of two banquet halls with a capacity of 300 each, which can be merged to host up to 1,000 guests, making it one of the biggest wedding venues in the city. Among the venue’s highlights are features such as indoor catering, a DJ or live music and the presence of some of the best restaurants and lounges in the city, such as Madera and Up North.

Vijaya Halls, T Nagar and Anna Nagar

Vijaya Halls has been the go-to venue for high-profile weddings in Chennai for a long time now. This traditional banqueting space, located in two upmarket locations, Anna Nagar and T Nagar, is tailor-made for Indian weddings and boasts seating arrangements for up to 1,500 guests along with catering and decor services. The primary highlight of the venue is its exquisite decor, which mirrors South Indian sensibilities.

Kapaleeswarar Temple

No amount of luxury, service and decor could match up to the charm of a traditional temple wedding. And thanks to a push from pop culture and movies, a large number of couples, both from the city and NRIs looking to get married in Chennai, are bucking the trend of the big fat wedding and are increasingly preferring its ancient temples. The most popular among these is the age-old Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore, which makes for an amazing wedding venue. The temple complex has a mandap and has the capacity to host up to a 100 people. While no pre-existing services, such as in-house catering or air conditioning, is available, the temple more than makes up for it with its 1,000-year-old charm and tradition. The temple can only accommodate two weddings per day, so it is advisable to book as much in advance as possible.

Green Meadows Resort

Interest in beach and resort weddings has been on the rise in Chennai for a while now. But you don’t necessarily have to sacrifice connectivity or head out for miles along the East Coast Road to find the perfect seaside wedding destination. Green Meadows Resort in Palavakkam is one of the few resorts located within the city limits, just six kilometres south of Adyar in South Chennai. Just off of Palavakkam Beach, this sprawling property can accommodate up to 1,500 guests. This property also provides in-house catering with a cost of Rs. 900 per plate. With sprawling lawns and an air-conditioned banquet space, this property checks all the right boxes for a perfect beach resort wedding.

St. George’s Cathedral

Chennai’s St. George’s Cathedral is among the oldest churches in the city and makes for a great wedding venue thanks to its rich history, sprawling compound and exquisite design and architecture. It’s also one of the most important places of worship for the Church of South India (C.S.I.) denomination of Protestant Christianity. It even has the added advantage of being situated right off of the Gemini Flyover in Central Chennai, which makes it one of the most accessible and centrally located churches in the city.

And this weight of history, combined with exquisite architecture and traditional value, is what makes the Santhome Basilica one of the best wedding venues in the city. The sprawling church compound has a number of facilities and features for prospective couples and boasts a conference hall, two wedding halls and one mini hall.
