For a collection of some of Oklahoma’s best wildlife, landscape and sporting art, head into the Trailside Gallery in Jackson for the annual Fall Gold Exhibition and Sale. This yearly aesthetic fiesta coincides with the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival. Participating artists include Brent Cotton, Michael Godfrey, Bonnie Marris, Jim Morgan, George Northup, and many others, some of whom will be in attendance at the artists’ reception on 13 September. 2. Logan Maxwell Hagege – Changing Light

Jackson’s Trailside Gallery is hosting Logan Maxwell Hagege’s new exhibition, Changing Light, in which he conjures up quintessential scenes from the American Southwest in a series of figurative and landscape works. Hagege deftly depicts scenes emulating Native American life and culture, framed in the thirsty environs of the Southwest desert; his appetite for dusty scenes developed during youthful sojourns at his grandmother’s house in the California desert. To meet Hagege to discuss his art, there will be an artist’s reception on 13 September. Hagege’s works on display at the Changing Light exhibition will be sold by draw.

Wyoming’s agricultural roots are the focus of the Homesteader Days and Harvest Festival which takes place in downtown Powell, WY. If antique tractors and tractor pulls are your thing, then the Encampment Copper Days Festival is a great event. The festival is held annually, the week after Labor Day. Tractors engage in blistering competition, which involves pulling heavy, weighted trailers to ascertain which tractor is in the strongest fettle. Tractor collectors from all over the region flock to Encampment, Wyoming, to eagerly showcase their mechanical wares. There is also a family and community dance held at the Grand Encampment Opera House where the day’s tractor-based excitement boils over into feverish gyrating. The festival is entirely free of charge and should all the tractors induce a ravenous appetite, lunch is available for purchase.

The most majestic of rendezvous is to take place this September in Cody, Wyoming: the Rendezvous Royale. The event showcases and celebrates the best of western arts and includes a sashaying western fashion show and an exhibition of some of the most refined furniture in the west. Part of the Rendezvous Royale, the Boot Scootin’s Boogie event sees the closure of Cody’s Main Street as hoards of exciting creative types flood in to fill the automobile-shaped void. The festival’s raison d’être is to showcase myriad local talents in a setting where both aesthetic appreciation and feverish procurement are rampant. Guests are invited to partake in an eponymous boogie as live music is slathered over the expectant eardrums of the frenzied guests. The smell of freshly cooked foods pervades the merry atmosphere of the Boot Scootin’ Boogie, enticing those present to try all manner of western produce. The event is free to attend and will take place in all weathers.

9. Patron’s Ball

The Patron’s Ball is the climactic event that occurs at the denouement of the Rendezvous Royale. The fundraising ball is billed as the ‘premier gala of the Rocky Mountain region,’ a must-see for aspiring local socialites. This year’s ball will be the 38th and will feature the sonorous sounds of the Denny Leroux Orchestra, accompanying gustatory delights prepared by Chef Ryan Boehme and Bravo Catering. Guests can enter the potentially lucrative car raffle where a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 will be available for winning; the draw will take place during the ball itself. Tickets cost $350 per person and can be purchased by contacting the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
