The packed bars and people on Washington Street in Hoboken on a Friday night speak to the city’s very vibrant nightlife. But even though the evenings are filled with booze and partying, the daytime is a great time for families to explore the area and have fun doing so.

And as Hoboken has evolved, so has its offering of kid-friendly events, which range from weekly movies to food festivals.

Kids Night at Garden Street

For Hoboken parents who are looking for one evening to have some adult time but can’t find a babysitter, then perhaps you should consider taking your kids to the Garden Street School of the Performing Arts. The events are for children ages three to eight years old and include a movie on the big screen, a pizza party with cupcakes for dessert and an art project that they can take home at the end of the night. Reservations are required as spots fill up quickly. Head to their website to find out dates for upcoming Kids Night events.

St. Ann’s Italian Festival

Hoboken’s Italian community has been a stronghold in the Mile Square City for a long time. And to pay homage to their culture, the city hosts the St. Ann’s Italian Festival on Jefferson Street and 7th Street in July every year. Filled with games, music and all the zeppole you can eat, this is an excellent kid-friendly event in Hoboken. And if you like live music, there is a different headlining act every night.

Movie Under the Stars

If there’s one event that everyone in Hoboken, and its neighboring towns, looks forward to every year, it’s the annual Movie Under the Stars series. Every Wednesday during the summer, the city screens different films at Pier A where people can bring blankets, snacks and all of their loved ones for a relaxing night. While some would take this as an opportunity for date night, the series also screens children’s movies throughout the season, which means it is a great kid-friendly event in Hoboken.

Hoboken Harvest Festival

During the fall, Hoboken gets into the Halloween spirit by hosting the Hoboken Harvest Festival. From hay and pony rides to moonwalks and face painting, this annual event brings the young ones all over Hoboken and beyond together to play outside and just enjoy the fun vibe of Halloween.

Bark in the Park

If you and your family love dogs, then you’ll need to go to Bark in the Park in the fall. Hosted by the Liberty Humane Society, it is the biggest pet festival in Hudson County. Not only will the kids get to play with lots of dogs, but there are also many activities throughout the day, including food and drink.
