The former mining town of Crested Butte in Colorado is a haven for snowsports lovers in winter. The good news is that there are plenty of accommodation options, no matter your budget or preferences. From family-feel Bed and breakfasts to luxury hotels located right by the slopes, here’s our pick of the best places to stay – come summer or winter.

1. Nordic Inn

Welcoming skiers since 1963 when the ski area opened, Nordic Inn is an affordable, pet-friendly B&B with perks including a free shuttle between the town and mountain. It’s just a five-minute walk to the base of the ski hill. The communal living room is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine by the fire, or a home-baked cookie.

2. Elk Mountain Lodge

Built in 1919 as a miner’s hotel, Elk Mountain Lodge has been lovingly renovated, nodding to the past while offering modern comforts. The 19 guest rooms feature crisp linen, private ensuite bathrooms and wood furnishings. Ski lockers, private parking and a free shuttle are also available. Mountain guides can be booked through the lodge for backcountry skiing and snowshoeing (or mountain biking and hiking in summer).

3. The Elevation Hotel & Spa

Located at the base of Mt Crested Butte, this luxury ski-in ski-out hotel has slopeside dining, ski and snowboard rental, an excellent spa, heated indoor pool, and three hot tubs. Rooms and suites have views of the pistes, and come with plush bedding, private balconies and kitchenettes. The 9380 Tavern Restaurant and Bar is the spot for cocktails or s’mores by the fire pit.

5. WestWall Lodge

You’ll be able to ski straight out of this traditional wooden lodge, which features a locker room, ski valet and rental service. The self-catering accommodation ranges from snug studios to luxury penthouses, all with homely touches such as fires and living areas with low-slung sofas and mountain views. At sunset, slip into the outdoor hot tub with unobstructed views of Mt Crested Butte, or book a massage.

6. The Ruby of Crested Butte

Cosy and charming, this top-rated B&B has just six rooms, so it feels more like a family home than a hotel. The breakfast changes daily – don’t miss the signature cinnamon rolls, or their family recipe Dutch apple pancakes, served with homemade creme fraîche. Choose from King, Queen and Twin guest rooms, all adorned with antique furniture, sumptuous linen and even white-noise machines.

7. Old Town Inn

Providing hotel amenities with the warmth of a family inn, this B&B is located in Crested Butte’s colorful old town. Guests can hop on a free shuttle and be on the slopes within 15 minutes. The 33 rooms are individually styled, with printed throws, fresh flowers and local artwork. Breakfast involves bagels, boiled eggs and fresh fruit, while fresh-baked cookies await your arrival every afternoon.

Built in 1927, this blue building with its pretty white picket fence is Crested Butte’s oldest B&B. A recent revamp has made it seriously stylish – think feature walls clad in natural wood, claw-foot baths, an outdoor hot tub and balconies overlooking the mountains. Bathroom toiletries are locally made and free bikes are available in the summer. For skiers, there is slopeside storage for your kit and post-ski massages are available.
