Often referred to as California’s Shangri-La, Ojai is lined with palm trees, Spanish-style architecture, and acres of lavender, citrus, and avocado fields. The idyllic southern California town is also a hub of meditation and relaxation. With a population of about 8,000, Ojai bans chain stores like Starbucks, and is instead home to numerous yoga studios, spas, and wellness retreats. These spas will ensure you do just that.

Spa Ojai

Spa Ojai in the evening

Spa Ojai is known for its unique and extensive list of treatments, offering everything from Himalayan salt massages to sound therapy, and spiritual guidance with their on-site Energy Alchemist. Their Kuyam treatment, which combines healing clays, dry heat, and meditation, is inspired by the local Chumash Native Americans. Located at the Ojai Valley Inn, the 31,000-square-foot spa facility contains 28 treatment areas. For those willing to pay, Spa Ojai offers two spa penthouse suites, decked out with their own private meditation lofts, terraces, outdoor whirlpools, and fireplaces. Alongside the treatments, Spa Ojai provides daily classes, including yoga, meditation, water aerobics, and tai chi. At the Artist Cottage and Apothecary, guests can take classes to learn how to blend their own spa products.

EarthTonics Spa

A warm welcome at EarthTonics Spa

Daron Hope founded EarthTonics in 2008, after moving from New York City back to her hometown of Ojai. Excited to be around nature again, she starting experimenting with making skin care products out of organic and wild-harvested ingredients. From that she created EarthTonics: a line of organic, handcrafted skin care products. Her spa services focus on skin care, combining her esthetician background with herbalism, aromatherapy, and energy medicine. Those who can’t make it to Ojai for a botanical facial, can still purchase her products online.

Lavender Inn Spa

The spa at the Lavender Inn

Ojai’s historic 1874 schoolhouse found new life as the Lavender Inn Bed & Breakfast. Situated on their luscious grounds, the Inn’s day spa provides the ideal location to relax. While the services aren’t as extensive as some of the other spas in the area, they offer a solid list of facial and massage options, including a 90-minute ultrasound facial and a deep tissue massage. The Lavender Inn and the spa usually have a seasonal theme that influences their offerings, including a Pixie tangerine facial scrub in April.

The Day Spa of Ojai

The Day Spa of Ojai

Located in the heart of downtown Ojai, The Day Spa of Ojai is a family-owned operation. They specialize in body treatments, although they also offer facials, massages, and waxing. With the exception of their clinical facial, The Day Spa of Ojai uses all organic products, with an emphasis on algae and avocado. The marine pumice body exfoliation, for example, incorporates a hydrating ocean algae to treat dull and flaky skin.
