| © 2014 Seth K. Hughes

Begging for an escape? Need some ‘me’ time after an exhausting few months? Well, guess what—it’s your lucky day, because you can stay in this beautiful Alaskan cabin for absolutely nothing!

It’s not just the simple things in life that are free—friends, family, love and all the stuff that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside come at no cost. It’s lovely and all, but nothing says ‘I love the world’ more than a free vacation rental. Excuse me—free what? Yes, you read that correctly, you can now stay in a cutesy Alaskan cottage for absolutely nothing. Of course, there is a catch.

If you’re a member of the Mountaineering Club of Alaska you can take up residence in seven charming digs throughout the Alaskan tundra for nada. ‘How much is membership?’ we hear you ask with an eye roll. Annual membership costs a very small and very doable $20, or $25 for a family.

So yes, it’s not entirely free, but $20 to stay in a picturesque cabin in the woods?! Sign us up right now.

The beautiful huts are scattered throughout the Chugach and Talkeetna mountains, all at varying altitudes. Of these, the most popular and Instagram-worthy of the cabins is the adorable little Mint Hut perched high in the Talkeetna Mountains, just a short hike away from the Susitna River and Mint Glacier.

Reservations for the hut are not required but are all offered on a first come, first served basis. Find out how you can stay in one here!
