Whether it’s rock climbing, hang gliding, zip lining, scuba diving or kiteboarding, there’s a location and company in Puerto Rico ready for you. Thanks to the natural diversity and beauty, and adventurous spirit of many people, Puerto Rico is the ideal destination for adrenaline junkies. Don’t forget, always put safety first, that being said, go forth: adventure is calling!

Hang gliding

Admire Puerto Rico’s beauty by hang gliding both inland and over the coast; who doesn’t want to be able to fly? USA Today reports that there are seven flying sites on the island, located in Canovanas, Gurabo, Morovis, Isabela, Arecibo, Guayama and Penuelas, so that adventurers have many options to choose from. Luckily, due to the weather in Puerto Rico, it’s usually possible to fly throughout the year.

Zip lining

Zip lining is a popular activity for locals and visitors in Puerto Rico, with a handful of companies offering zip lining adventures throughout the island: Batey Zipline Adventure in Utuado, Toro Verde Nature Adventure Park in Orocovis, and Rainforest Zipline Park in Rio Grande, among others. While all of the zip lining companies have different packages, Toro Verde has the distinction of housing the largest zipline in the world. Called The Monster (El Monstruo), it spans 2.5 kilometers or 1.57 miles, according to the company website. An amazing opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of this beautiful island.

Scuba Diving

Puerto Rico is an excellent location for scuba diving and some of the best places to dive are in Humacao, Fajardo, Palomino Island, Condado and Mona Island. Various companies offer scuba diving experiences, such as Sea Ventures Dive Center in Fajardo and Island Scuba in Guanica. Scuba diving is a chance to explore under water in a safe environment with the opportunity to dive coral reefs and encounter amazing sea creatures.

Rock climbing

There are four quality places to rock climb in Puerto Rico, three of which are made of limestone and one of basalt: Cerro Las Tetas in Salinas, Caliche in Ciales, Rosario in San German, and Nuevo Bayamon in Bayamon. Depending on the weather and each individual climber, it’s advisable for adventurers to bring their own sizeable supply of chalk, according to Aventuras Tierra Adentro. See a unique side to the island through this extreme and challenging sport.

Kiteboarding or kitesurfing

Numerous kiteboarding companies can be found in or near the San Juan Metro area, including GoodWinds Watersports and Kitesurf Center, and 15 Knots Kiteboarding School in Carolina. The Puerto Rican climate is perfect for this sport, since it’s common to visit the beach year-round and the sea conditions are perfect. Surfing, and kite surfing (which adds an element of height and acrobatics to surfing), are not for the faint of heart but are endoubtedly exhilarating and rewarding for those brave enough to try.
