A romantic break away is never better than in Cancún, with its beachside sunsets, Caribbean cocktails and twilight dinners that last long into the night. As well as a reputation for white sands and turquoise waters, Mexico’s renowned resort offers stunning scenery and endless activities, making it the ideal destination for two. Read on for our couple’s guide to making the most of your time in this idyllic spot.

Where to stay

Accommodation options in Cancún are many and varied. Adventurous backpacking couples would do well to consider a hostel close to the hotel zone, which can be the best option if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and prefer to splash out on activities elsewhere. However, if you are searching for somewhere to indulge in comfort, take a look at Secrets the Vine Cancún, where you can chill out together while listening to the soft whisper of the sea breeze through the palm trees.

Get active

Strengthen the bond of your relationship while sharing the excitement of Cancún’s thrilling activities. The resort offers a wide variety of windsports for adrenaline junkies – try windsurfing, or for something more daring, lose yourself with your partner in a two-person parasailing experience over the crystal waters below. Thrillseekers can also try their hand at ziplining or abseiling, while nature lovers can choose to swim with dolphins at Delphinus World for a more relaxing way to commune with nature.

Explore under the sea

Discover a whole new world together under the Caribbean’s idyllic waters. Go scuba diving and let your senses be captivated by the sight of tropical fish darting through the colorful coral, or try a Breathing Observation Bubble (known as ‘BOB’) for a different way to check out marine life. In Cancún, the underwater art museum showcases an incredible 470 statues standing at the bottom of the sea, while in the Nichupté lagoon, snorkelling or taking a kayak together can offer new ways to spot exotic animals amid the marvels of the jungle.

Discover a new culture

The mysticism of Mayan culture is everywhere in Cancún – you don’t even have to leave the hotel zone to find the key archeological zones of El Rey, El Meco, and San Miguelito. A visit to the Mayan Museum close by is another great way to find out more about the resort’s historical foundations.
