Jamaica has many fascinating tourist attractions, lively, popular towns and beautiful beaches across the island. But if you’re looking for a bit of peace and quiet, there are a few tranquil places where you can escape the crowds and truly relax. Here are some of the best ways to go off the grid in Jamaica for those travellers looking for beautiful places to unwind.

Camp out in The Blue Mountains

Natural Feature

The Blue Mountain range in Jamaica is the best place to go camping, and escape from the noisy bustle of the towns. The cool temperatures and beautiful scenery make it the perfect escape on the eastern side of Jamaica. Many locals and tourists pack their camping bags, especially on the weekends or holidays, and hike up the mountains with friends and family, securing a camping spot that gives them the best view of the amazing Jamaican sunrise and sunset over the mountains.

Visit the beautiful Reggae Falls

Reggae Falls in Jamaica is one of the island’s best-kept secrets. The spectacular waterfall, located in St. Thomas, cascades several feet to the Johnson River. One important feature of the Falls is the section where warm water springs from a rock. According to the locals, the warm water can be used to heal wounds because of the sulphur. The obscure location makes Reggae Falls an idyllic getaway. https://www.instagram.com/p/BaagLexFsCp/?taken-at=660567370786699

Hike in the Cockpit Country

Cockpit Country is an area in Trelawny and St. Elizabeth parishes in Jamaica that is protected by the government. The area is hilly and dense with limestone denudations, making it perfect for a hike. The Cockpit Country can be a challenge as it features steep hills, but once you find a well-travelled trail, the scenery makes all he effort worth it. Cockpit Country has the highest concentration of plants and animals anywhere on the island and is ideal for birdwatchers, plant-lovers and anyone who wants to be surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Spend a day in the Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park

The Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park in Negril was officially opened in 2003. The Nature Park is a garden of ginger lilies, ferns, taro plants, croton and many of Jamaica’s indigenous wildlife, but the main feature of the park is the almost Olympic-sized pool which is fed with water from the nearby Sweet River.

The Nature Park is also one of the few places in Jamaica that you can get a fish pedicure! Dip your feet into the water and the inch-long fish, known as doctor fish, will begin to feed on the dead skin on your feet. People often visit to enjoy the exfoliating treatment and, of course, relax in the beautiful gardens.

Experience Holywell National Park

Park

The easiest way to enjoy the majestic view of the Blue Mountain range is to visit Holywell National Park. The 330-acre park stands approximately 1km above sea level and is the most popular destination within the Blue and John Crow Mountains. Surrounded by a range of exotic flowers and plant species, the park features five signposted trails, a ranger station, bathroom facilities and picnic/barbecue areas. There are also a few inexpensive wooden huts available at the park if you want to stay a night in the hills.

Go birdwatching at Barney’s Flower & Hummingbird Garden

The privately-owned, Barney’s Flower & Hummingbird Garden, off West End Road in Negril, is a lush tropical house garden home to Jamaica’s national bird, the hummingbirds. The 1,000 square-metre garden is a natural habitat for hummingbirds, lizards, butterflies and many of Jamaica’s other wildlife. Barney’s also features many exotic flowers, trees and plants. Guests have the chance to feed and hold the hummingbirds, while spending time in the lush gardens. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy being surrounded by beautiful scenery.
