The Griffintown neighborhood in southwestern Montreal has been transforming over the past several years, evolving from its origins as an industrial and working-class district into a revitalized area with condos and restored historical buildings. Here are some of the new cafés and coffee shops that have recently opened in Griffintown.

1. Allo Vélo

Allo Vélo is a hybrid bicycle shop and Italian café that sells European-style bikes, gear, and clothing alongside a variety of cold brews, filtered coffees, teas, and pastries. They are known for their warm and friendly service and knowledgeable staff. Stop by to tune up your bike, browse the cool accessories, and enjoy a dark, rich espresso.

2. Le 5e Café

Le 5e Café is a zero-waste establishment that also operates as a neighborhood co-working space, popular among local professionals and students. They have a variety of creative coffee-based beverages, and if you’re there for a longer stay, you can get unlimited coffee for $3 per hour.

3. Le Richmond

Le Richmond is an upscale spot in Griffintown that comprises a restaurant, bar, and little market. Specializing in Northern Italian cuisine, you can enjoy a delicious espresso or cappuccino in the market, which is right next to the main restaurant.

5. La Bête à Pain

La Bête à Pain is primarily a local bakery, but it also serves great coffee and a rich espresso. Prices are on the higher side, but you can make your visit a special occasion and also enjoy the delicious soups and sandwiches, including grilled cheese, and beignets. They also have a second, far-flung location up in Montreal’s Ahuntsic neighborhood.

6. Café Lali

Café Lali is a beautiful and bright spot located inside the Carré des Artistes contemporary art gallery, so you can enjoy local creative work while sipping on your matcha latte. This little café has two levels, so be sure to check out the lovely upper loft area. There are different coffee, smoothie, salad and sandwich options, as well as delicious pastries.
