Auburn autumn colours surround Glenfinnan Viaduct, near Fort William in Scotland

Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scotland

This spectacular stone railway viaduct towers above Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan Monument in the rugged hills of the Scottish Highlands. It’s a truly magical spot, so it’s no surprise that the Harry Potter films took full advantage by making it part of the Hogwarts Express route. The viaduct, as well as the surrounding area, features multiple times throughout the franchise, but takes centre stage during the flying card sequence in Chamber of Secrets (2002). Keep an eye out for wizarding mischief as you cross the viaduct on the gorgeous Jacobite steam train. This glorious old locomotive looks right at home in the Scottish countryside, and the train was used throughout the films as the Hogwarts Express itself! You can join us on a Jacobite ride from Fort William to Mallaig on our week-long Rail Trip from the Scottish Highlands to Edinburgh. The capital has become quite the popular spot for Hollywood in recent years – see Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and F9 (2021) – but nothing can out-setjet the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

Angkor Wat at sunrise

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

The stunning temple complex, regarded as the largest religious structure in the world – not to mention one of the oldest – is just about as cinematic as a location could get. There’s something special about this place, from the intricate wonder of the Buddhist temple itself to the surrounding ruins of Ta Prohm, which have become eerily overgrown, as Mother Nature reclaims the land for itself. This makes it perfect as a backdrop to a variety of scenes, with two of its most famous film appearances coming from two completely different movies. First you have Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), which brilliantly utilises the temple’s adventure movie aesthetic, and then you have Wong Kar-Wai’s achingly romantic In the Mood For Love (2000), which ends in Angkor Wat with one of the most beautiful scenes in cinema history. You get to visit Angkor Wat at its prettiest on our Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam trip, which includes a stunning sunrise trip to the complex, followed by an e-bike ride around Ta Prohm and Angkor Thom.

Man looking over the city from a cave in Matera, also known as the Stone City

Matera, Italy

Just when you think Hollywood’s location scouts have discovered it all, a new destination emerges that looks like nowhere else on Earth. That’s what happened in the latest James Bond thriller, No Time to Die (2021), which introduced the world to Matera. Few movie locations have made such an instant impact on audiences in recent years, with Matera even stealing the headlines upon the original trailer release back in 2019. The small hilltop town in Italy, carved into the region’s rocky cliff-sides, gets the full gamut of Bond scenarios, from a poignant scene at an old friend’s grave to a spectacular car chase. You can follow in Daniel Craig’s footsteps on our 10-day Seductive Southern Italy tour, which goes from the chaotic streets of Naples to the ultra cinematic Amalfi Coast, before hopping across to the glorious beaches of Polignano a Mare, stopping off en route for a guided tour of Matera.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
