A James Bond-Themed Igloo Village Is Coming to Switzerland This Christmas
This winter you’ll be able to chill out in the Swiss Alps, James Bond style. The people who brought the first igloo village to Switzerland are now opening a new James Bond-themed ice centre near the Schilthorn, where parts of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service were filmed.
The Bond village joins a list of six other igloo villages in Zermatt, Davos Klosters, Engelberg, Gstaad, Stockhorn and Zugspitze, each with a unique theme.
A crack team of ice sculptors and constructors build these ‘100-day hotels’ every winter, only to melt away once the season ends. Iglu-Dorf GmbH drafts teams of artists to add a little magic to the design, ensuring that it’s a different experience every year.
For instance, the igloo village at Zermatt is delving into the realm of mythology and will feature icy renditions of the Gods of Ancient Greece. While at Gstaad, sunshine meets ice and snow in a quirky Hawaiian theme.
You can’t stay in the Bond ice village, but once it is constructed, you’ll be able to enjoy the Igloo Bar and Restaurant with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains as a dramatic backdrop. The village will be within walking, skiing or snowboarding distance of the station at Birg.
The Bond-themed village is open to visitors from December 25, 2017.
