10 Things Adrenaline Junkies Should Do in Switzerland
For the adventure minded, Switzerland is bursting with opportunities: high-altitude cliff walks that make the hairs on the back of your head stand up, the world’s highest bungee jump and much more. Discover the 10 things you should do if a good dose of adrenaline is your kind of fix.
Jump from the Contra Dam
For fans of 007, the Contra Dam needs no introduction; it appeared in Golden Eye. Stand on the edge, 220m above the valley floor below, and plummet head first in what is the world’s highest bungee jump station. You won’t find a thrill quite like this anywhere else. Head to Gordola in the canton of Ticino and be sure to book well in advance.
Paraglide over Geneva
Leaping off the Salève mountain, which is actually in France, gives you the best possible views of Geneva and the sprawling Lac Léman, Switzerland’s largest lake. Tandem flights are also available across the country in Interlaken and Davos.
Canyoning in the Alps
Feel the ice cold glacial run-off splashes in your face as you slip and slide your way down a flowing river; feel the adrenaline pumping as you rappel down a cliff face. Whether you are a pro or a newbie, there are so many spots to choose from if you want to try out canyoning in Switzerland. Head to Interlaken or Ticino for some of the best and most accessible adventures.
Tackle Switzerland’s longest Toboggan run
On mount Fräkmüntegg, Switzerland’s longest Toboggan run stretches for 1,350 metres down the mountain side, snaking its way along with plenty of sharp turns and caves which you’ll pass through.
Take a cliff walk on Mount Titlis
Walk for 100 metres, 500 metres above the ground – sounds easy, right? Along this one-metre-wide bridge you can peer down on to the valley floor below and lean over the slightly inclined barrier to really get your adrenaline pumping. The views are outstanding, and at the end of this nerve-wracking cliff walk is a viewing platform that makes all the terror worth it.
Whitewater rafting on the Landquart
Battle 11 kilometres of river and strain every muscle against ferocious rapids on the Landquart in Graubünden, one of Switzerland’s top rafting experiences. For a slower-paced challenge, head to the Simme river, which has a good mix of rapids and calmer sections. Check out swissraft.ch for more rafting opportunities around the country,
Fly a fighter jet over the Alps
Experience the thrill of controlling a former Swiss Air Force fighter jet, a Hawker Hunter for the experts. You’ll be taken up in the air by an air force pilot and take control of the jet. As you can probably imagine, this doesn’t come cheap and availability is limited, but you’re sure to have a once-in-a-lifetime view of the Alps.
Skydive in front of the Eiger mountain
With a north face that is known as the ‘Death Wall’, it’s safe to say the Eiger is well-known. You can enjoy the splendour of the mountain as you plummet to the Earth from around 15,000 feet at a jaw-rattling 120 miles per hour. This is sure to get your heart pumping.
Summer sledding in the Alps
Sledding is great and all, but don’t you just hate the wet and cold that comes with it? Well, look no further than summer sledding. You’ll race down kilometres-long tracks on a Swiss-made sled at the height of summer on snow-free roads. Check out Summer Gemmel for more information.
Go on a Thrill Walk at the Schilthorn
If you can’t enough of high-altitude cliff walks, then the Schilthorn’s Thrill Walk might just be perfect for you. The walk leads you 200 metres around the mountain’s summit on a mix of steel and glass walkways, including an 8-metre-long steel tunnel which you’ll have to crawl through.
これが最後です。スカイウォークです。楽しめましたでしょうか。 これからミュンヘンまで車で帰ります。7時間かかるかな。休憩を取りながら、安全運転で帰ります。
