While you might come to Mallorca to ride the Sóller train, tour La Seu Catedral de Palma or explore the Drach Caves, sometimes you just want to kick back. Located between the superyacht marina of Port Portals and the popular holiday resort of Palma Nova, the St Regis Mardavall leans more towards the swankier. It’s set in some seriously sizeable landscaped gardens, which overlook this pretty stretch of coast. Facilities are abundant, beginning with the enormous Arabella Spa, which qualifies as one of the largest in Europe. The main three-tier pool isn’t short of space either, while Michelin-starred dining and white-gloved butlers complete the five-star experience.

This five-star, adults-only resort is set among pine forest and wild olive trees on Canyamel’s scenic eastern coast. Even by the lofty standards of Mallorcan beaches, Cala Mesquida is a genuine stunner, and this hotel is one of a privileged few to overlook it. One of the original luxury hotels on the south coast, Nixe Palace still has plenty of old-school grandeur behind the polished beachfront façade. While it no longer attracts the likes of Errol Flynn and Grace Kelly, a raft of upscale features still impresses the most discerning of guests. An outdoor heated wellness pool offers lovely sea views while you soak, as does the refined setting of the excellent restaurant and more casual beach club.

The Melia chain has been at the forefront of the rebranding effort of Magaluf to Calviá Beach – and this super swish resort hotel is a fine example. Overlooking the swankier south end of the bay, Meliá Calviá Beach has four pools, including a lagoon pool with direct beach access. There are a small but deluxe adults-only spa, several excellent eating options and a kids’ clubs that even caters to babies.
