Santa Croce is one of the less touristy neighborhoods in Venice, with more affordable prices and typical Italian bars. It has some great restaurants and beautiful sights, so it is no surprise that its top 10 bars, which we have listed below, are great places to pay a visit to.

1. Al Prosecco

One of the best bars in Venice, Al Prosecco is not open very late, but it is nevertheless a great place to start off a fun night, what with its great wine selection, snacks and friendly service. Visitors can expect to find a great selection of by the glass wines, and, since the brothers who own the place look for original wines, chances are that visitors will find new and surprising options here. Prosecco is obviously served here too, and visitors who do not like sparkling wine will be delighted to discover that Al Prosecco offers a still version of this iconic drink.

2. Bacareto da Lele

One of the city’s many bacari, Bacareto da Lele is a tiny bar that has become immensely popular with the locals and now has a very loyal following in the neighborhood. Venetians often like their food served quickly and efficiently, since many of them lead very busy lifestyles, and that is why the bar and also the sidewalk outside it are usually full to the brim with people waiting to be served one of the establishment’s delicious sandwiches or glasses of wine.

3. Enoteca Buso Durello

This locale is a simple, humble wine bar that, apart from its drinks, serves very good quality food. When passing by this bacari, a type of bar in Venice known for serving bar snacks and aperitivo, no-one will be able to resist the advertising on the window, happy hour from 6.30pm to 8pm with drinks for just three euros is an unbeatable offer, especially in a city as expensive as Venice. Inside, travellers will have to make their way amongst the crowd to reach the bar and order a typical Spritz, and then on to the buffet area, which is packed with crostini, bread, salads, pasta and even some veggies.

6. La Patatina a San Giacomo

La Patatina a San Giacomo is a very cute bar with a great garden, excellent dishes that are very well presented, and extremely pleasant service. From fish risotto to clams to different kinds of shrimp, this bar is all about typical Venetian recipes, which give a lot of importance to seafood. The options here range from pizza and delicious gnocchi to seafood-based dishes, including some of the best desserts in the city. 8. Osteria Alla Ciurma

This locale situated close to Santa Croce does not only serve delicious Panini, a succulent hamburger and scrumptious cichetti ranging from crostini to croquettes and cod, but it also has an excellent selection of wines and a couple of artisan beers. They are known as a wine bar, and although the locale is minute, the clients here are always plentiful, as anyone can appreciate the quality of their tasty snacks and by the glass wines. Since Osteria Alla Ciurma specializes in cichetti, it is the perfect option for a light dinner or a pre-dinner snack, depending on how hungry visitors are.
