Whether you’re looking to finally get your chakras in line after all that procrastination, or simply want to tone your temple, find your peace in the hustle and bustle of the city at one of these yoga studios in Berlin.

1. Sun Yoga

Yoga is a popular pastime for many in Berlin, so classes tend to get quite full. Sun Yoga offers one of the largest practicing rooms in the city, with 12o square meters. Perhaps the studio took its name from the afternoon sunlight that drenches the room, giving you that extra sense of stepping into the light during your sun salutations. With locations in both Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, you better get ready to sweat as this is a hot yoga affair (Bikram) and the heat is cranked up to 40 degrees. That’s probably a better bet as to where the name comes from.

2. Yoga Klub Berlin

Prenzlauer Berg is the the site of the small but inviting Yoga Klub, which offers Iyengar yoga to a diverse range of groups; from pregnant women, children and the elderly. The specific style comes from the yogi B.K.S. Iyengar himself, who once said that “relaxation begins in the outer layers of the body and penetrates into the deep layers of our existence.” The man is revered as one of the leading modern authorities on yoga, flexibility and fitness. Although the method can be physically demanding, the studio takes care to break down the poses into smaller movements. Perks also include masks to cover your eyes for the relaxation period at the end of a class.

3. Jivamukti

For the modern yogi, Jivamukti likes to play music from the likes of Moby and the Beatles. Offering Berliners a modernised form of Hatha Yoga, the studio combines vinyasa sequences, meditation, philosophical teachings and deep relaxation. They have presence in both Kreuzburg and Mitte and also offer yoga teacher training courses and retreats all over the world. The Mitte studio has a canteen serving organic, vegan food.

Sita Tara in Charlottenburg offers a quiet, peaceful haven for yogis. The interior is extremely Zen, with candles, mosaics, wooden floors and beautiful finishes. They give classes in English and Russian too, and their approach is very much entwined with ancient tantric Buddhist philosophy, meditation and mindfulness. Watch out for their special events, including workshops and teacher training courses.

Spreading good vibes all across the city, Yogafürdich (Yoga for You) has studios in Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain. With almost 50 classes a week across three locations, dedicated yogis benefit from their flat rates and inviting rooms. Their style of yoga is called Power Vinyasa Flow, a relatively young, dynamic, western-shaped technique taken from India. In Vinyasa Flow Yoga, highly effective poses (asanas) are combined in sequences and paired with a powerful breathing technique (Ujjayi breathing).
