Berlin is a city in perpetual change, as neighbourhoods get a facelift, underground scenes become mainstream and development finds its way to the city. Buildings are adorned with scaffolding, the skyline is filled with cranes and Berlin’s city centre is increasingly under construction as the grips of gentrification become ever-present. There is an underlying feeling of loss associated with it all, a sense of moving on and leaving the past behind. However, a local Berliner, Alex Steffen, is seeking to immortalise the changing face of his city with his platform and book, Vanishing Berlin. Drawn to photography at a young age, Alex has taken this passion and made it his mission to capture the city he grew up in, as it was and before it is forgotten. Successfully crowdsourcing his first book, Vanishing Berlin is a collection of beautiful images that perfectly capture the city’s ever-changing character.
