Museum Island is home to five celebrated museums, where some of the best artefacts in Berlin (and Germany) can be discovered. Visitors can spend the day taking in some of Berlin’s finest artistic sights and then venture to the surrounding area to enjoy Berliners’ favourite culinary feast: currywurst. Here are the best spots to try currywurst near Museumsinsel.

1. Curry 61

Close to Hackescher Markt, and just a short walk along the tree-lined canal from Museum Island, Curry 61 is a cosy currywurst joint in the heart of the city. Serving up freshly made, succulent sausages, it’s the perfect spot for well-priced bites, including the original Berlin currywurst, drowning in rich ketchup and curry powder.

2. AMPELMANN Restaurant

Combining two great loves of Berliners – Ampelmann, the iconic traffic man of former East Germany, and currywurstAMPELMANN Restaurant is perfectly located overlooking Museum Island. The restaurant offers a diverse menu, geared towards tourists, including a tasty, large serving of currywurst. If you want to enjoy sausages with a view, it’s a good place to go.

3. Currywurst Express

Currywurst Express is the quirky currywurst food kiosk that can found around Berlin and close to Alexanderplatz station, about a ten-minute walk from Museum Island. This quirky joint provides delicious, freshly made and traditionally prepared Berliner currywurst, served with refreshing pilsner beer. It’s the über-authentic, casual spot to try currywurst in Berlin.

Located on a lively strip near Hackescher Markt station, Restauration 1840 is a German restaurant with a rustic interior and authentic charm. Well-known German cuisine favourites can be found here, including pork knuckle, schnitzel and, of course, fresh and delicious currywurst dishes. Due to the location, it’s a great spot to try for those who want to sit back, relax and enjoy this fast-food treat in style.

7. Bandy’s Currywurst

Enjoy your currywurst with a seat and view at Bandy’s Currywurst. Located directly across from Museum Island, this casual food joint serves up well-priced currywurst and beer that can be enjoyed at their large outdoor seating area.
