If we had to choose one city where the hipster subculture was born then Aarhus would probably be ranking on the first place. Denmark‘s second largest city after Copenhagen brims with hipster hangouts that you should definitely visit while exploring Aarhus.

Godsbanen

Godsbanen

Godsbanen is a cultural hub that since 2012 has hosted several events; from festivals and performances, to flea markets and street food markets. The 10,500 m² space has endless choices for those who want to develop their creative side, either by making art or by attending a cultural event, with indoor production facilities, meeting rooms, a mini cinema and a large foyer. Moreover, Godsbanen offers handicrafts workshops and a photo studio for those who want to explore the art of photography. If however, you’re not in the mood or don’t have the time to strengthen your creative skills, you can just enjoy a drink at the cozy café/restaurant.

LYNfabrikken

LYNfabrikken

LYNfabrikken is a former factory building that was renovated and is now one of the most hip places in Aarhus. Many young entrepreneurs use the building’s separate rooms for their business meetings and many startups house their offices in one of the 39 workspaces. If you you need to squeeze in some working hours or have a quick Skype meeting while traveling in Aarhus, LYNfabrikken is your place. The coffee bar on the roof terrace is a meeting point for students, young employees and travelers who need a stylish and quiet place to get some work done.

Restaurant Hærværk

Restaurant Hærværk

Hærværk is considered one of Aarhus’ most trendy and high-quality restaurants, and not without a reason. The menu is never the same at Hærværk, as the ingredients they use vary according to season and are usually used in different combinations and recipes. Plus, the prices are quite affordable. You’ll find the daily or weekly menu on their Facebook page, so keep an eye out and make sure to book a table before it’s too late.

Soul Shine

Soul Shine

Soul Shine is a second-hand and vintage store with a great collection of clothes from the 20th century. Being a non-profit project with a social health and environmental purpose, Soul Shine is run mostly by volunteers and mentally vulnerable people. Aside from a great variety of second-hand clothes, in Soul Shine you’ll also find a café which serves vegetarian dishes inspired by crank food from the 60s.

Great Coffee

Great Coffee

Great Coffee has been named the Danish Barista Champion twice, Goldwinner of the European Coffee Team Challenge in 2008 and winner of World Best Coffee Nation 2008. That means that Great Coffee lives up to its name. Driven by their passion for quality coffee, the people behind Great Coffee collaborate with the farmers in order to enhance the attributes they like in coffee, then brew it using various methods and prepare it with the finest techniques before serving it to their customers. Indulge into a warm cup of coffee in their café in the heart of the Latin Quarter, Aarhus’ most hipster district.

Langhoff & Juul

Langhoff&Juul

Whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner, Langhoff &Juul has you covered. Gourmet dishes inspired by the Scandinavian cuisine, organic smørrebrod with endless combinations on top and a great collection of wines are served all day long in the hip restaurant. Decorated in a minimalist Scandinavian style but with some elements that add a warmth to the place, Langhoff & Juul offers a great environment for a hyggelig meal.

Øst for Paradis

Øst For Paradis

You may be wondering why a cinema that opened approximately 40 years ago is included in Aarhus’ most hipster hangouts. But we’re sure that if the city’s hip community knew that they could enjoy a Sunday brunch while watching a classic film, Øst for Paradis would be one of their favorite places. The historic cinema was renovated just a few years ago, replacing its old audio and visual equipment with modern ones, more comfortable chairs were put in place of the old ones and a brand new lobby area was added. Even though it went under refurbishment the place didn’t lose a bit of its authentic and cozy atmosphere, and luckily still projects movies you won’t find in other cinemas.
