From cozy cafés and takeaways to stylish restaurants and gourmet dishes, this list has the top choices for every vegetarian and vegan visiting Aarhus.
Every dish at Cafe Gaya is prepared by 100% organic ingredients. Guests will find a great variety of vegetarian dishes served for breakfast, brunch, or lunch while vegan options aren’t missed off the cozy café’s menu. Fresh salads, tasty soups, and juicy sandwiches at low prices will fill every vegetarian’s hunger.
One of the challenges vegetarians face while traveling is finding a place where they can grab a quick bite and fill their hunger while exploring a city’s attractions. Luckily in Aarhus there is Mikuna, a take away vegetarian café where visitors can find warm dishes as well as sandwiches and burgers filled with fresh vegetables, tuna, or beans.
Gluten-free homemade bread, fresh juices, and seasonal organic vegetables are some of the things Café Ganefryd offers to its guests. Situated at the Latin Quarter close to Our Lady Church, some of the city’s most famous boutiques, and bookstores, the elegant café is the perfect place for grabbing breakfast or brunch and to warm up in while exploring Aarhus’ historic center.
Aside from a great variety of seafood dishes and high-quality fusion sushi, Karma Sushi has a special page on its menu with vegetarian delicacies. Special dishes filled with avocados, cucumbers, and other vegetables are marinated in a delicious sauce, prepared by experienced chefs who offer a unique culinary experience to gastronomy lovers. Karma Sushi has restaurants all over Denmark including Aarhus, Copenhagen, and Aalborg.
In Aarhus Central Food Market, the city’s new food mecca, as it has become known, stands the Green Neighbour. Vegans and vegetarians will love this place, as it only serves salads made from seasonal vegetables and fresh juices. All the ingredients used for the delicious salads and refreshing juices are organic. Since the day Aarhus Central Food Market opened in the historic Aarhus Hall it has become a favorite spot for connoisseurs.
The first Grød restaurant opened in 2011 in Copenhagen with the goal to persuade people that porridge can be a delicious and hearty meal. Six years later there are four restaurants in Copenhagen and one in Aarhus. Apparently, the people behind Grød managed to make porridge part of locals’ food habits. Grød in Aarhus is situated in Aarhus Central Food Market serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner inspired by the local and international cuisine, with porridge always being the starting point.
In Denmark, there are many restaurants serving delicacies of the Middle Eastern cuisine; falafel, hummus, tabbouleh for vegans, or lamb and chicken shawarmas for meat lovers. It’s a cheap, easy, and tasty way to fill your hunger, so a restaurant of this kind couldn’t be missing from this list. Hummus Pita Bar opened a few months ago but it seems it’s already becoming a local favorite. Except for falafel, the cozy place offers many vegetarian delicacies inspired by the Lebanese cuisine, as well as salads.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
