Some adventure junkies are completely unaware of the treasure trove of activities offered in India. The skiing options in India are excellent. Here is all you need to know about the best skiing destinations in India.

Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir

A 90-minute road trip from Srinagar, Gulmarg is one of the best skiing destinations in India. It has around six bunny slopes at different gradient levels for beginners and high-altitude slopes for the professionals. It also has one of the highest cable cars in the world. The powdery snow on the slopes is perfect for skiing, catering to professionals and families alike. Heli-skiing is also possible here.

Solang Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Located 13 kms from Manali, the Solang Valley is another popular spot for skiing in India. It may not be as well-equipped as Gulmarg, but it is among the favourites for skiers from all over the world. There’s a luxurious resort named the Solang Valley Resort, or plenty of budget accommodation in Manali, a 30 minute drive away.

Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir

In a popular region of the Western Himalayas, Pahalgam is a small town that’s well-known as a skiing destination in India. Apart from the breathtaking views of the snow-clad mountains, the region has fresh powder from December to January. There’s also plenty of good accommodation. Visit the area named Aru for the best ski slopes with thick snow. The best time to visit is from December to mid-March.

Auli, Uttrakhand

This hard-to-reach region has perfect ski conditions, available from mid-January to mid-February. It’s best for skiers looking for a challenge, as it can be tricky and the rescue team in the region is not very strong. There are virgin slopes, but only for true adventure seekers!

Kufri, Himachal Pradesh

A short trip from Shimla, Kufri is a quaint and cozy place with a whimsical feel. It is one of the best-known places for winter sports and skiing in India. Visit between November and February.

Phuni Valley, Sikkim

This valley in Sikkim has various slopes for different levels, from novice to expert skiers. It’s a picturesque and serene place, making it an ideal winter- sport destination.

Narkanda, Himachal Pradesh

Narkanda is known for its 500m slope, ideal for novice skiers. The beautiful valley also has schools that teach skiing, starting from January. It is easy to find virgin slopes and terrain here. There is also more challenging, steeper unexplored terrain, as well as other winter sports to enjoy.
