Bogotá, Colombia’s high altitude capital city, is full of culture shown specifically through the love Colombians have of dancing and having a good time. From high-end cocktail bars to hidden local bars, the city has it all and comes alive on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Here is a guide to the best bars in Bogotá.

Armando Records

Armando Records is one of Bogotá’s most popular small concert and event venues, and has three unique floors, a rooftop terrace, a music hall complete with stage, an official outside seating area and a contemporary lounge area. Armando also has a delicious pizza restaurant around the back. They have a large variety of music depending on the floor, and either a DJ or live music event every night except for Mondays.

Apache

Apache is a rooftop, American-themed bar located on the top floor of the sleek and stylish Click Clack Hotel, located in the neighborhood of Chico. This bar boasts 360 degree views of the entire city and, with an extensive classic cocktail list and one of the best burgers in Bogotá, this unique bar is great for an evening drink with a view.

Céntrico

Céntrico is a rooftop bar located on the 41st floor of the Hilton Hotel in the International Center neighborhood of the city. The bar has impressive views of Downtown Bogotá and the surrounding area. Céntrico offers an extensive range of cocktails and a tapas menu to enjoy while taking in the views of the city skyline.

Yumi Yumi

Yumi Yumi is a cocktail bar located in Zona Rosa and is home to the freshest fruit cocktails in the city: it has a large range of cocktails made with fresh produce from all over Colombia, as well as imported drinks from around the world. This urban-style bar offers great happy hour deals: 3-for-1 on cocktails until 6:30PM on Thursdays and Fridays, 3-for-1 cocktails all day Monday to Wednesday, 3-for-1 cocktails until 9:30PM on Saturdays. Chelsea

The Chelsea rooftop bar is located in the Bioxury Hotel and is home to a stunning panoramic view of the city. Enjoy a cocktail or tapas while sitting on the outside terrace on comfortable sofas and be warmed up by the outside heaters. This New York-inspired bar has one of the best sunset views in the area, and there are DJs which, all together, make for a unique atmosphere.

La Negra Bar

La Negra Bar is a basement-style club located in Bogotá’s Chapinero neighborhood. This colorful bar transports visitors to the Colombian coast using music originating in coastal and island regions: champeta, zouk, merengue, salsa and reggae. Inspired by New York City, Havana, Kingston, São Paulo and Rio de Janerio, it combines the best of each location to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. The walls are decorated with colorful beach landscapes and you can find delicious cocktails and drinks from around the world.

The Bogotá Beer Company (BBC) is one of Colombia’s largest breweries but, as well as producing and selling artisanal beer, the BBC has a large number of bars located all over the city. This chain bar is popular with locals and tourists, and many people visit the bars to watch sports and sample locally produced beer. Though they have many bars to choose from, one of the most popular is located in Zona Rosa.

La Villa

La Villa is a popular bar located in Zona Rosa. Its western feel is popular with tourists and expats. It’s decorated in a vintage style with unique pieces of furniture, an upstairs terrace with classic red leather sofas and a retractable roof. La Villa has a number of popular weekly events: Gringo Tuesdays is a language exchange conversation club – a chance for foreigners to go and practice speaking Spanish in a relaxed environment. Or there’s Exchange Salsa Thursdays, which gives foreigners or tourists the chance to spend the evening learning the classic Colombian and Latin American dance. After both of these events the bar stays open and plays a mixture of western, indie, pop and electro music. Every weekend they have events for different occasions.

The Irish Pub

The Irish Pub is a chain of three bars located in La Candelaria, Usaquén and Zona T. This authentic Irish pub-style bar is decorated to transport you to Ireland. They stock a large variety of drinks from typical Colombian beers to imported alcohol from around the world; they even have a menu with English and Irish-style meals, including fish and chips. The location in Zona T and has a large terrace and four individual rooms inside.

El Candelario

El Candelario is a unique bar with a local feel that’s hidden in the colonial La Candelaria neighborhood of Bogotá. This gem of a bar doesn’t look like anything special from the outside, but once you find your way inside it provides for an unforgettable experience. This quintessentially Latin themed hotspot is popular with locals and foreigners, and plays a range of music, such as salsa, merengue, R’n’B and rock over two floors.

Andrés Carne De Res (Andrés) is not merely a bar or restaurant – it’s a different world! You step into the venue and everything from the ceiling decorations to the cocktail cups are unique; people visit Andrés for the experience. They have a large bar/resturant/club located an hour outside of Bogotá – in a town called Chia – and Andrés DC which is located in the El Retiro neighborhood of Bogotá. Andrés has live music, delicious Colombian food, unique cocktails and a mixture of all different kinds of music. Andrés Chia is a mind-boggling 2.76 square miles of party with 11 dining areas, five kitchens, two dance floors and a road running through the middle.
