Buenos Aires’ food scene has been getting more and more exotic as the years go by. Once there was a time where it was difficult to get anything more than your typical milanesa, but now ethnic food from all over the world is available citywide. We round up the best Indian restaurants to tingle your taste buds in Buenos Aires.

1. Taj Mahal

Restaurant, Indian, Vegetarian, Vegan, Argentina

Taj Mahal Restaurante, Buenos Aires

Perhaps the city’s most popular Indian restaurant, Taj Mahal takes you on a culinary journey through the subcontinent by bringing you India’s favourite dishes and a host of others that might surprise you. Carefully blended spices and rich, aromatic sauces are the order of the day, and you might be forgiven for thinking you have just dined in a restaurant in Mumbai, such are the genuine taste sensations you will experience on your gastronomic adventure in the Taj Mahal.

2. Mash British Curry House

Restaurant, Indian, British, Vegetarian

San Telmo’s newest curry house is a homage to all things spicy and filling. A British curry house by name and brand, Mash brings the taste of the Indian food popularised in the UK to Buenos Aires. Indian take-away classics make it onto the menu in this quaint but no-frills joint, so expect plates like beef madras and lamb rojan josh, as well as curries from further afield from places like Thailand and Vietnam, making appearances with prawn massaman and chicken Thai green curry.

3. Gran Dabbang

Restaurant, Indian

gran dabbang

This pocket-sized eatery in Palermo is run by a British expat who wanted to revitalise the Buenos Aires Indian food scene by spicing it up a bit and bringing some unexpected dishes to the table. Gran Dabbang’s small plates pack a larger-than-life punch of taste and flavour, and ingredients like mushroom and plantain are given an exotic overhaul by the talented chef to really shake up your palette. Get there early as they don’t take bookings and the place fills up pretty quickly each night.

4. Tandoor

Restaurant, Indian, Asian, Vegetarian, Vegan

This popular restaurant in Palermo Viejo specialises in curry and Tandoori dishes, offering all of the classics you would imagine and more. If you’re in a rush but you just can’t miss out on your Indian fix, they have a set lunch menu, but in the evenings you can sit in their splendid 19th century property kitted out with crisp white tablecloths and tasteful décor, or get your tasty Indian meal delivered straight to your door.

5. La Reina Kunti

Restaurant, Indian, Vegetarian, Vegan, Asian

This low-key Almagro haunt is favoured by vegans and vegetarians, and has been made popular by its stellar pakoras, chapatis, samosas, and kachoris. A decidedly DIY affair, while Reina Kunti may not be among the Indian restaurants with the most flair, it certainly compensates in the taste department, and through its delivery of fresh food made with seasonal ingredients in true vegetarian Indian style that feels perfectly at home in the bohemian barrio of Almagro.

6. Restaurante Naturaleza Divina

Bistro, Restaurant, Indian, Vegetarian, Vegan, Argentina, Street Food, Fast Food
