This incredibly popular Puerto Iguazu eatery is packed out almost every night, so make sure you get a reservation. Set in an intimate yet casual environment, the quality of the food is of a world-class standard. Go for the local river fish and the desert made with locally grown yerba mate.

The Argentine Experience

Restaurant, Argentina

The Iguazu counterpart of the original Buenos Aires dining experience is one to go for if you like your dinners with a healthy dose of fun and interaction. This communal dinner party invites guests to learn about Argentine culture through making their own empanadas, picking up some handy phrases, slang and hand gestures, and making friends with fellow diners at the communal dining table as the wine flows freely.

La Dama Juana

Restaurant, Argentina

This compact restaurant offers traditional Argentine food at reasonable prices. If you are in the mood for some traditional Argentine steak, La Dama Juana has it in abundance, or if you’d prefer something different, they also have a variety of fish dishes. Sit on the terrace balcony that overlooks the street for some great people watching.

For those looking for a cheery and informal dining experience, head to the Feirinha de Puerto Iguazu, an open food court and patio surrounded by low-key places to eat and delicatessen stands selling meats, olives and cheeses. Expect cheap food and beers, and folding tables and chairs that are good for big groups. This is a popular spot with locals, so if you want to avoid the tourist prices of the bigger restaurants, head here for some delicious snacks and casual treats.

La Docta

Restaurant, Argentina

One of the more popular restaurants in the feirinha is La Docta, an ad-hoc affair that serves up fantastic picadas, or meat and cheese boards, and tasty empanadas. They also have a small selection of grilled meats typical of the Argentine barbeque, or asado, so head here if you want to fill your belly but not break your wallet.

Terra

Bar, Argentina, Asian

Terra is an oasis of wooden interiors, beer and interesting dishes. Offering stir fry and Asian inspired grilled dishes, Terra is where the Orient meets Argentina in Iguazu. Go hungry as the portions are plentiful, and the dishes make a nice change from the typical Argentine fare you would expect from the country and region.

La Mamma Pastas and Salsas

This lunch spot packs out with people queuing up to get some of the best pasta in the town of Puerto Iguazu. Popular with locals, La Mamma Pastas and Salsas dishes up homemade ravioli, gnocchi and pasta combined with a range of sauces to fill you up and get you through to dinner. Watch out for the food coma that follows though, the portion sizes are not for the faint-hearted.
