From Pan Asian to Middle Eastern, Japanese to traditional Fijian fare, Viti Levu has a wide variety of international and local flavours to choose from. Some chefs are born and bred Fijians who have ventured around the world perfecting their culinary art before returning home, while other restaurants boast international chefs bringing a taste of their home to the Fiji Islands.

1. Eden Bistro & Bar

Bar, Bistro, Restaurant, Oceanian, Seafood, European, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free

From fresh seafood dishes to premium meats, Eden Bistro and Bar is one of the top places to dine in Fiji’s capital, Suva. Guests frequently praise the friendly nature of staff and the colourful hand-painted décor inside, and the Australian meats on offer are said to be top notch, as well as the selection of local Fijian flavours.

2. Daikoku

Restaurant, Japanese, Seafood, Sushi, Asian, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free

Daikoku is one of Fiji’s best Japanese restaurants, with traditional Japanese architecture. The teppanyaki chefs are all locally trained in Fiji, but the establishment has a strong focus on authentic Japanese culture and customs. Beef and lamb is imported from New Zealand and Australia while the seafood used is sourced from around Fiji. The prawns with yum yum sauce are exactly that — yum!

3. Levuka

Restaurant, Contemporary, Oceanian

Inspired by and named after the former capital of Fiji, Levuka is one of the Grand Pacific Hotel’s fine dining restaurants in Suva. The restaurant extends from inside the hotel to the outside dining area, overlooking the pool deck and out to Suva Harbour. Levuka options a range of different international cuisine including authentic Fijian flavours.

4. Ports O' Call

Restaurant, Oceanian, French, European, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free

Ports O’ Call is Fiji’s first fine dining restaurant, with outstanding service. Located within the Sheraton Fiji Resort in Denarau, the interior has been designed to resemble the interior of an old cruise liner. It is one of the few places in Fiji where shorts are not allowed, so be sure to adhere to the dress code or you might find yourself being handed a traditional Fijian sulu — a traditional type of modest skirt worn by men and women in the islands.

Tiko’s Floating Seafood Restaurant in Suva stands out from the crowd, mainly because of its structure and location. The restaurant is actually an old cruise liner, permanently moored in the harbour. Seafood is their specialty, but they offer other meats for those who prefer fruits of the land, rather than fruits of the sea. To top off the setting, there is live jazz each night.

6. Chantara

Restaurant, Thai, Asian, Vegetarian, Vegan

Chantara is quite possibly the best Thai restaurant in all of Fiji. Located in the lobby area of the Radisson Blu Resort in Denarau, Chantara offers a relaxed, semi-outdoor setting with views out to the resort’s waterfall feature. The restaurant has a wide range of traditional Thai dishes that are beautifully presented to guests. The menu has been created by Thai chef Pitchayapon Thiptham. Chantara is also open for breakfast and lunch, but the Thai menu is only available at dinner.

7. Ocean Terrace

Restaurant, Seafood, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free

Ocean Terrace is a unique and relaxed establishment at the Bedarra Beach Inn along Fiji’s Coral Coast – but consistently hits the mark with travellers. Enjoy a casual yet classy candlelit dinner with a light ocean breeze to bring relief from the heat of the day. Included on the a la carte menu is local lobster, traditional Fijian kokoda (similar to ceviche), grilled fish and a traditional Indian curry with roti and chutneys.

8. Taste Fiji

Cafe, Contemporary, Oceanian, Fusion, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free

Taste Fiji is a favourite among locals and the expat community in Nadi. Like many of the best establishments in the nation, the exterior is humble, but visitors are greeted with an array of decadent sweet treats as they enter. Taste Fiji is open for breakfast and lunch each day, but is only open for dinners on Friday nights with a special three-course menu, offering some of the best and freshest local produce, meats and fish.
