As you’d expect from Australia’s most cosmopolitan city, there’s a massive variety of places to eat, and you’re sure to find good options if you prefer plant-based dishes. Culture Trip offers a serving of the most scrumptious vegan food available for Sydneysiders and visitors to enjoy.

1. Bad Hombres

Restaurant, Mexican, Vegan

Gluten-free? Vegan? Bad Hombres has you covered. This vegan Mexican restaurant is perfect for large groups with plenty of different food preferences who are looking for a fun night out. With hanging overhead lights and exposed brick walls, the dining room has a rustic feel. The food is tasty and affordable. If you haven’t had plant-based Mexican food before, make sure you try the crispy miso-eggplant taco with pineapple salsa.

2. Matinee Coffee

Diner, Vegan

This family-run – and family-friendly – diner is aptly named for afternoons at the theatre, as a performance it is! Blue floors and retro chairs line this large space, which is perfect for group bookings. A large fringed chandelier plays centre stage only to the coffee and friendly service. With a delectable menu that offers any dish made vegan-friendly, your choices range from vegan pastries such as mouth-watering key lime pie to fresh eggplant salad. The drinks menu is also vegan, including vegan milkshakes and alcoholic beverages. This trendy cafe is a favourite among Marrickville locals. You’ll find it teeming on the weekends with trendsetters and brunch lovers alike.

3. Gigi Pizzeria

Pizzeria, Restaurant, Italian, Vegetarian, Vegan

Pizza aficionados rejoice! Finally, a cheese-free pizza that tastes as good your atypical pie. Exposed brick walls and chalkboard menus create a laidback feel at this popular hot spot. The main bar is centre stage and the tables face the chefs preparing the pizza in the oven. It’s a busy venue, so be prepared to line up on Fridays and Saturdays.

4. Yulli's

Cafe, Bar, Restaurant, Healthy, Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten-free, Cocktails, Wine, Beer

One of the original vegan restaurants in Sydney, this quirky restaurant was wowing vegans back when it was unusual to be one. Expect a flavoursome menu of Asian Fusion share plates. This restaurant is fully licensed and provides a nice respite when the surrounding bars are busy.

5. Yulli's Brews

Craft Ale Bar, Vegan

A lovechild of the original Yulli’s, this vegan brewery is located in the trendy, industrial suburb of Alexandria. Visit this brewery, kitchen and tasting room for a complete vegan experience. Order their vegan beverages, which are brewed on-site. Try the Norman Australian Ale for an approachable drink, and be sure to snap a quick photo for Instagram – the food is almost too beautiful to eat!

6. Peppe's

Bar, Restaurant, Italian, Wine

In the mood for vegan pasta? Wooden panelling and white curtains adorn the street front of this all-vegan Italian restaurant. The handmade pasta is seriously addictive, and you can choose your own sauce for each bowl. The wine list changes weekly, is carefully selected and showcases natural wines with no additives. Dress well as this popular restaurant is teeming with trendy locals.

7. Bodhi Restaurant

Restaurant, Vegan

Located at the rear of Cook and Phillip Park in the CBD, Sydney’s iconic vegan yum cha venue hits the spot. The decor is simple, offset by hanging lanterns and fairy lights to create a romantic ambience. Grab a table under the surrounding fig trees, and enjoy the vegan yum cha and faux meat dishes.
