From the town’s trendy weekly Farmers Market to its classic monthly Community Market, there are half a dozen markets to choose from in Byron alone throughout the year, with plenty more to be found in surrounding towns including Bangalow, Brunswick Heads, Lennox Head, Mullumbimby and beyond.

Most of Byron Bay‘s local markets have now incorporated single-use plastic bans, so don’t forget to bring your own reusable bags if you’re planning to shop up a storm. And come hungry, as every market features a selection of the region’s best food stalls, with loads of plant-based options. Did you know – Culture Trip now does bookable, small-group trips? Byron Farmers Market

Skip the grocery store, and buy local at Byron Farmers Market

Held in Byron’s Butler St Reserve every Thursday morning from 7am-11am, the Byron Farmers Market brings together the best producers, growers and artisan food stalls in the Byron Shire and immediate surrounding shires. With live music and coffee and baked goods stalls, it’s a great place to grab some breakfast and soak up the Byron scene even if you don’t need to stock up on organic local veggies.

Byron Community Market

With its vast collection of artisan-made products, holistic services, local musicians, homemade treats and more, the long-running Byron Community Market offers the ultimate snapshot of Byron’s creative spirit. Held in the Butler St Reserve on the first Sunday of every month, the market also provides an opportunity to give back to Byron by dropping some change in the collection boxes at the entrances to the market, which support two local charities each week.

Byron Flea

Thought to be Australia’s only youth-focused market, this Byron Youth Service initiative invites people of all ages to gather, shop, relax and support emerging Byron creatives and entrepreneurs. Held in the lush YAC amphitheatre right in central Byron on the second Saturday of every month (8am-2pm), Byron Flea offers some of the best bargains in town as well as a safe space for Byron youth to express themselves.

Byron Twilight Markets

Taking place in Byron’s revamped Railway Park every Saturday at 4pm-9pm, from October to Easter, the relaxed, cosy evening market offers a great taster of Byron’s arts and music scene with its small collection of boutique artisan stalls complemented by a line-up of local food vendors and live music acts. The park also has a kids’ playground, making it a great dinner option for families.

Byron Beachside Market

Held four times each year in early January, at Easter, in mid-July and in late September, the Byron Beachside Market is a “make it, bake it and grow it” market, offering the chance to experience and purchase local products and services, from fashion to tarot-reading, in a beautiful beachside setting on the foreshore of Main Beach, east of the Surf Club.

Surf Market

Surfboards on Sale at Surf Festival in Byron Bay

Part of the annual Byron Bay Surf Festival, held in February, the Surf Market features a wide range of surf-oriented vendors from around the country, from surfboard craftspeople and booksellers to artists and homegrown surfwear labels. In 2020, the market (typically held on a Saturday from 9am) moved from the Main Beach foreshore to Byron Bay Brewery, so you can now enjoy a brew while you browse.
