The Best Adventure Activities in Australia's Scenic Rim
With loads of foodie options and incredible sights to see, the beautiful Scenic Rim is perfect for a romantic getaway or quiet family holiday. But if you’re an adventure junkie, don’t be too quick to discount this region as being for the faint hearted. There is a lot for those who love a kick of adrenaline to start their day.
Horse Riding
While horse riding isn’t standard practice in the Scenic Rim, there are allocated trails that do allow it. The Mt Joyce Recreational Park has multi-use trails and you can enjoy the picturesque trail along the Wyaralong Dam all the way up to the Mt Joyce Ridgeline. There are more trails on Mt Tamborine, Lost World Valley and Mt Barney.
Rockclimbing
Queensland rock climbers hold the Scenic Rim in high regard as one of Queensland’s best regions with multiple sites for climbing. Mt Barney National Park is a great place to start for experienced climbers. One of the most popular climbs in the area and even in Australia is called Frog Buttress on Mt French.
Hot Air Ballooning
While it might be a little less adventurous than other activities available, you’ll still get a thrill as you lift off to great heights in a hot air balloon. Fly over the Gold Coast hinterland and even enjoy a champagne breakfast with many of the local hot air balloon ride providers. There couldn’t be a more beautiful way to start your day than by watching the sun rise over the hills of the Scenic Rim.
Queensland Moto Park
This one is for the petrol heads and dirt track lovers out there. Moto Park has facilities for motocross, freestyle motorcycling, peewees, quads and more. If you’re keen to commit some decent time to your sport, you can even camp on site, which is complete with an amenities block and relaxed country vibe.
Scenic Rim Adventure Park
This 680 acre property is perfect for visitors wanting to get back to nature, providing bush camping in a beautiful country setting, off road four wheel driving, bush walking trails and some amazing star gazing opportunities. This one is a great place to bring the kids too, with a maze, play areas, spider wall and more to keep them busy.
Sky Sports
Your best bet for sky sports (think hang gliding and paragliding) is the well known Canungra Sky Sports Flight Training Facility. You can do everything here from a basic intro day-long course through to becoming a fully fledged licensed pilot. The experienced team who run this place can help you whether you’re a first-timer or an old hat, and they aim to make it as fun of an experience as possible!
