One of the perks of living in DC is the number of small towns surrounding it. When you’re tired of meeting coworkers at that favorite, high-priced happy hour, with nothing but chic decor and beige and black suits as far as the eye can see, head to Arlington. It’s only a metro ride away and is a haven from the political and business-like sphere that even manages to find its way into moments and places that should be about having fun. Go to these twelve diverse happy hours in Arlington for a fun time that’s truly away from your worries.

Courthaus Social

It’s in the neighborhood Courthouse, but it’s a German establishment so it’s spelled all foreign and cool. As with most beer gardens, it’s half indoor, half outdoor, and it has a happy hour. Unlike some, it’s a really great deal of a happy hour and has some of the best beer and German food around. Get $3-$5 appetizers like Bavarian pretzel and Reuben roll. They also have $5 pints, $4 house wines and $4 rail drinks, 4-7 pm on weekdays.

Clarendon Ballroom

If you were one of the many who skipped out on prom night, now is your chance to feel like you never did. Out on the dance floor, there’s plenty of hit songs and disco lights. The only difference is the good drink deals and rooftop patio.

TRIO Grill

For a place with so many deals during happy hour, Trio Grill is pretty swanky. It’s a bar and cigar lounge, a restaurant, has live piano music on Fridays and they even have a patio. There are specials galore, including $5 draft brews, $7 well drinks, $8 for specialty cocktails, $7 per wine glass, $7 appetizers and oysters become discounted to $9 for half dozen, $18 for the dozen. These deals go on Sunday through Friday, 4-7 pm.

TenPenh Tysons

This contemporary Asian fusion spot makes it easy to save money and get your buzz on simultaneously. Everything on the happy hour menu is $5, and there are more than 20 items on the menu. The drink list includes items like Sauvignon Blanc, classic Japanese drafts and signature cocktails like Asian Mojito. The food options are delectable bites such as bao buns, tempura shrimp and pork belly. Happy hour is from 3-7 pm, Monday to Friday, and 4-9 pm on Sunday.

Busboys and Poets

A gathering place for the creatives, the brainy and the ones brave enough to sign up for poetry slams. It’s a hive for free expression and self-education, regularly screening documentary films and with decor mainly comprised of portraits of social justice leaders such as Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. As you may expect, they offer terrific vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. The happy hour includes half-price appetizers, $2 off craft beers, $5 glasses of wine and $3 off cocktails.

Lyon Hall

If you consider yourself a connoisseur, or at the very least a strong fan, of meat and beer, this is the brasserie for you. The German-French style restaurant is housed in a trendy Art Deco building and they have happy hour daily from 3-7 pm. It includes differently prepared mussel dishes, oysters, burgers and hanger steak frites. As for the drink selection, mainly European wines, cocktails and unique beers are offered.

Spacebar

The grilled cheeses are visionary, the craft beers are consistently rotated, and the atmosphere is a retro industrial dive bar. Happy hour is daily, from 5-7 pm. A perfect place for getting tipsy on a few craft beers then diving into some college days drunk munchies.
