For years now, Mulligan’s Irish Pub has been a popular watering hole for locals. Enjoy a happy hour drink with coworkers, or enjoy a casual dinner with friends. The bar features 10 satellite televisions, so you never have to miss a game. The full-service bar includes an extensive list of bottled and draft beers, as well as fine wine and other liquors. The staff is very friendly, and will help you select a drink, or even a recommend a bite to eat. The food menu consists of typical pub fare, like nachos and burgers. However, there are a few traditional Irish dishes available as well, such as corned beef and shepherd’s pie.

Cornerstone is easily one of the most popular places in town, and is more of a gathering spot for the community as opposed to just a restaurant. Pull up a stool at the beautiful, wooden bar and order a simple beer or creative signature cocktail, or have a server escort you to a table and enjoy dishes such as pan blackened salmon, pork tenderloin, carrot ginger puree, beet carpaccio salad, potato gnocchi, and more. There’s even caramelized apple spice cake for dessert. Although Cornerstone is a casual pub the food is great quality and their simple burger and fries is not to be missed. Occasionally, the restaurant hosts special events, such as prix fixe dinners and game days.

Everything about Barre’s Ladder 1 Grill is eclectic. For starters, the building that houses the restaurant is a recently renovated fire station. The bar sits on the main floor, but up above is a fully operational hotel inn. Visitors of Barre stay in the deluxe suites, and head downstairs for a hearty meal. The menu includes everything from pizza and pasta, to steak and burgers. The food is quite delicious, and is definitely one of the aspects that draw people into Ladder 1. Mingle with your neighbors and enjoy a draft beer, domestic beer, beer brewed in Vermont, and even non-alcoholic beer.

Quarry Grill and Tavern

The Quarry Grill and Tavern has all the features of a typical sports bar, but is trendier and more tasteful than most of its counterparts. When you get hungry, you can dine at the bar, in the dining room, or in the more elegant upstairs lounge, which is often used as a venue for private celebrations. Order one of the delicious menu items, then wash it all down with an ice-cold beer. Quarry Grill serves numerous brews, some of which are made right in Vermont. Be sure to sample beers such as the Heady Topper, Road 2 Ruin, and selections from the local Rock Art Brewery.

Gusto’s Bar

While most bars in the area are focused on serving beer, Gusto’s offers its customers gin. The gin mill serves an array of gins, many of which have been distilled nearby. Locals don’t just frequent Gusto’s for the full service bar and tasty pub grub, the bar actually transforms into a nightclub. A few nights a week, a DJ will play all of your favorite songs from a multitude of genres, including hip hop, pop, country, dub step, classic rock, and more. There’s even a QR code that allows you to request a specific song! The best part about Gusto’s dance parties is that there is no cover charge to enter, so you can shake your groove thing out on the dance floor without any worries.

Simply Delicious

Officially known as Ellie and Shirl’s Simply Delicious, this popular downtown spot is the only wine bar in the city of Barre. The drinks menu features dozens of premium wines, available by the glass or by the bottle. If you’re feeling peckish, order a cheese plate or charcuterie to pair with your wine. For something heartier than meats and cheeses, Simply Delicious is also a café. Order a hot cup of soup, signature sandwich, or fresh and crisp salad. Be sure to attend one of Simply Delicious’ ‘Canvas and Cocktails’ events, you sip wine and take a stab at painting. It makes for a great evening out and you get to take home a painting you created yourself.

Jerry’s Sports Tavern

Whether it’s Monday night football or a Saturday NASCAR race, Jerry’s is where you go to cheer on your favorite team or athlete. The sports tavern serves ice-cold draft beers, bottled beers, and a few fine wines. The drinks menu also includes frozen drinks, like strawberry daiquiris, piña coladas, and margaritas. If it’s too cold for a frozen drink, try the increasingly popular liquor shots, including jello and pudding. After your team wins the game, try winning your own by playing a game of pool, or you can opt out of sports all together and just kick back with friends and share a plate of nachos or a platter of wings.

Though people may be aware that’s it’s a fantastic place to bite into a thick, juicy steak, they may be unaware that Steak House Restaurant is also a great place to go for a drink. The restaurant is a step above casual, so you and a few friends can cozy up in a booth and enjoy a great conversation, as opposed to standing in a crowded bar trying to watch a sports game on television. Order one of the refreshing glasses of beer or delicious glasses of wine featured on the menu. Then, if you get hungry, you’re conveniently located just a few feet away from a kitchen that will make you one of the best steaks in Vermont.

The contemporary space is spacious and receives a lot of light, creating a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Conveniently, Mister Z’s serves the food that pairs best with both beer and wine, pizza! The artisan, thin-crust pies come in at least five different sizes with nearly 30 optional toppings. And if you’re not in the mood for pizza, the menu includes pasta, burgers, calzones, wraps, salads, and more.

Barre may be a quaint town in Vermont, but you can travel to the other side of the world when you visit the China Moon Buffet Chinese Restaurant.The all-you-can-eat establishment serves unlimited amounts of authentic Chinese dishes, like lo mein, chow mein, moo shu, fried rice, and much, much more. Fill up your plate and enjoy your meal in a comfortable booth. The décor is made up of bright green walls, red lanterns, deep brown furniture, and dim lighting, it’s very inviting. Though you’re able to help yourself to the food, the staff is responsible for bringing you drinks, but there’s quite a selection to choose from, and they are happy to give you recommendations.
