There are many barbecue places in Texas that have stuck out more than the rest. One of those places is undoubtedly Salt Lick Bar-B-Que, located reasonably close to Austin. Here’s how this barbecue place came to outshine many others.
Their website says “Barbecue…like no other!” We completely agree. The Salt Lick was opened in 1967 by Thurman Roberts, Sr. along with his wife Hisako Roberts. With the combination of Hisako’s sweet barbecue sauce and Thurman’s culinary happenings, Salt Lick’s barbecue came to life. From what started as supplying barbecue a few times a year, it quickly grew to the point where they served every day. The restaurant is currently owned by Scott and Susan Roberts.

With choices like beef brisket, sausage, pork and beef ribs, chicken and much more, Salt Lick quickly became a local and national favorite. All meats are roasted and smoked on one of the most impressive barbecue pits we’ve ever seen. The pit is open for guests to see all the meats being cooked and once you do, you will be able to tell why the barbecue tastes the way it tastes.

On top of barbecue, the rustic-feel location has many rooms to rent for events such as parties and weddings. Salt Lick also has a its own vineyard and cellar where you can purchase wines. If you’re lucky, there will be live music playing during your visit. It really adds to the Texas vibe.

This popular barbecue place is cash-only, so when visiting, make sure you have enough. Enjoy!

TIP: This place is BYOB. So if you have a beer you like, go ahead and bring it with you. There’s nothing like barbecue and beer; delish!
