Finding a good deli is like finding comfort after a stressful day. Austin may not have as many world-renowned delicatessens as New York, but the ‘weird’ city can sure hold its own. Here’s a list of seven fantastic deli shops in Austin.

New World Deli

New World Deli is the ideal community deli shop. They’re best known for their Reuben, packed with meat, cheese, and extra sauerkraut. Their sandwiches are generally above average in taste, and the smell of their homemade soups and fresh deli meats alone is worth the trip. There’s also live music to enjoy on the weekends.

Noble Sandwich Company sources most of the deli’s ingredients from local vendors. Go against the norm and order their smoked duck pastrami and house-made rye pickles. Also, try their swine burger with house-smoked pork and coleslaw on the side. They go above and beyond by making everything in-house with quality ingredients, which reveals itself in every bite.

G's Dynamite Deli

A quaint little deli, G’s Dynamite Deli is a build-your-own sandwich shop. Pick your bread, choose your delicious deli meat from cold cut turkey to pastrami, add some cheese, and top it all off with one of their homemade sauces – they offer sun-dried tomato pesto mayo, horseradish lemon mayo, and jalapeño ranch, to name a few. If you’re feeling adventurous and hold a huge appetite or have lots of friends, try The Jeffery (pictured below).

Avenue B Grocery

In the middle of the Hyde Park neighborhood sits a favorite among locals, Avenue B Grocery – one of the oldest grocery stores in Austin. Along with various grocery items, they have a delightful deli perfect for lunch breaks. They serve hot sandwiches with warm soups, and if you’re lucky, they’ll have some chili cooking when you’re there. Sit outside at one of their picnic tables with your sandwich and cold soda pop; you’ll feel as though you’ve just traveled back in time to old town Austin.
